Nice doe harvested

Post by gerald strine »

A week ago last Saturday I harvested a nice doe with my 340 Mag.
My intention was focused on a doe this time of year as I drew a doe permit and want to save my other tags for the rut and firearm season.
The day started cool and calm I walked in a half hour before first light to sit on the ground with my back to a wind fall tree top on public land near me.
This is a small hard woods, woodlot near a marsh.
The day starts beautiful with a owl hooting in the distance while I am sitting waiting for daybreak , followed buy geese honking, sand hill cranes calls ringing over the day break as they fly over in the golden morning lite.
I had a single deer about a half hour after sunrise pass through at around 50 yards that got a pass to far for my liking but nice to see.
Then I had a single doe come from my far right and pass behind the wind fall I was sitting against never offering a shot but very encouraging .
Well then around 9:30 I had a group of 4 does come in again from my far right near my entry route, I was not really expecting to have so much action from that direction and being right handed not the easy shooting angel.
This time the lead doe is leading the group from my far right in front of the windfall , I see the lead deer is not a fawn so I wait for a good shooting angle and I am on her as she stops to give me the STARE but I am ready Thonk ! I send a 2219 XX75 with a slick trick x bow trick broad head on the way
and hear it hit home !
She does a 40 yard dash and stops starts to wobble for about 5 seconds and goes down in plain sight , no tracking needed !
It was a perfect eating 1 1/2 year old doe , some very fine eating I must say.
I have a picture but posting pic on this sight has not worked for me.

Thank you Boo for posting pictures !
Just after the pictures and gutting were finished is when I discovered the deer cart tires were about flat , to look at them they seamed good until you went to use them then as Homer would say "Dough" , lesson learned.

Nice Job young man!! Enjoy the fruits of your labor!!
