I'm Done for the Year
We're in the last few days of our firearms season and I've only been able to hunt two days. It's been bitterly cold and windy all day, both days I hunted. That's the bad news. The good news is that I killed a deer each day. On opening day I put down a doe and Friday afternoon I killed a very heavy bodied, old buck. His antlers are mediocre, but I'm pretty sure he's the heaviest buck I've ever killed (or seen). His head stuck out of one side of my tractor's bucket and his feet out of the other.
As a landowner, I still have one firearms and 3 archery tags left (including an archery buck tag). Along with the doe I killed with my crossbow in October, that's three deer in the freezers (all one shot kills) and I don't need any more. Success is good, but now I'm back to daydreaming about next season.
I'll have to find something else to do.

Congrats on all the harvest and that big buck !
Things are cold and windy here also but I still would like to harvest another deer for the year.
I am not quite done yet.

Congrats! Well Done!
Put a few days in here on the Island.
Simply confirmed my fears that our Blacktails have been hit extremely hard by AHD.
Hung up the bow & guns on them.
So now waiting for the late archery season in the Okanagon to happen.
Rolling out to winter on the 8th of December...
Cheers,
Nog

Congrats! It’s nice to have the freezer full! It’s been really cold here in Wi. I took my matrix out yesterday during gun season and saw 2 doe. Still looking for a nice buck. I still have over 2 months to bow hunt.

Congratulations Grouse!
While daydreaming about next year one think of ways to improve your own property's deer habitat for 2023 .
- Plant some fruit trees
- think about food plots and mineral sites to improve deer quality
- trim shooting lanes
- build natural blinds in strategic places
just a few thoughts....

These are all good suggestions and better use of my time than daydreaming. The problem is that winter isn't the best time to do most of these things. It's hard to plant fruit trees or put food plots in when the ground is frozen. A few years ago, I cleared shooting lanes in February and when I went back in September Mother Nature had filled the vacuum.
I am going to move a couple of tree stands I have to places where they may serve me better. Most of the other things will just have to wait.

I tagged out on Nov 07th. My meat supply is in good shape. Time to get the honey do list done!!!
