575 gr - Meat the FOC'ers

Post by Normous »

Our latest forum member PaulSpain contacted me recently requesting some heavy FOC 18" Custom Zombies shafts.
His target weight was 575 gr total with a 150 gr head used.

We can look forward to some field reports and photos of holey hogs killed in Spain soon.

To achieve a 425 grain arrow (without point) I selected the following components and went to work.

- 18" Zombie shaft .001
- 110 grain brass insert - Knurled.
- 60 grain add a weight.
- .296 inner carbon tube.
- 10 grain BE nock with a 18 Grain add a weight to duplicate the a 28 gr Lumenok.

- VaneTec 3.15" Swift fletching used. ,
NOTE: all white fletch was chosen . A black ink mark notes the channel or down fletch position.

The Inner carbon tube adds significant front end strength and reduces/shortens arrow flex when released from the string ( straightens out sooner due to reduced flex).

Additionally , each shaft was spine indexed and weight matched uniformity fell with .5 gr +/- , not too bad the way I see.
Shaft ends were squared and the final brass insert was squared to run true.

Actual finished weight was 428 grain without point giving a 578 grain total weight with a 150 grain point.

Who remembers the 2004 Comedy " Meet The Fockers" with Robert De Niro , Ben Stiller, and Dustin Hoffman? We watched it again this past weekend which gave my thread idea today.

That looks great Norm!!!
I'm looking forward to trying them with the Sevr and the SlickTrick, to see if any "piggy" can be caught.

I think you might rethink your next Excalibur with an over/under Twinstrike. Your farmers need help before the pig population explodes.

If there were as many pigs on my land as in the video, I wouldn't buy a new bow, I would buy a gatling.
Or maybe an Apache with a few loads of napalm... :eusa-think: :P

Yes, they are!!!
This beast fell to one! Sliced thru like a hot knife thru butter when topped with a 150g TOTA!!

That little gal here probably had a live weight of about 400 pounds.
This is a Barasingha. Also known as the Indian Swamp Deer.
I had been invited to hunt a hind Red Stag, but the owner of the ranch said "take her" so I did.

Norman's "Super Spankers" flew like straight as an arrow! (Pun indeed intended  ). Complete pass thru at about 42 yards. She went about 20 before stopping and just collapsing!!

In my "not too humble opinion", Mr. Norman makes the best arrows around for Big Game!!

You are a really big man AJ, if that deer was 400 pounds... :o

Hehehehe, here the translation would be... SuperSpainkers. :P

I have no doubt that those arrows will do their job well enough.

By the way, I really like your white beard!!

I'm 6'3" and around 230lbs.
I'm no Junior Miss size for dang sure!

Her head is against my body. We had to get a tractor with a lift to load her onto a 6 passenger Ranger.

And Paul, as you can see, that's no small Kubota. The hay spears are 5 feet apart.

And the white facial hair is called "Old Age"!!

This is my "partner in crime" Robert. He's roughly 5' 10 or taller and weighs right at 200. She makes him look small.

I have always been very bad at interpreting sizes in photos. There is no doubt that it is a great animal.
I used to be a pike fisherman and I was never good at interpreting photos. In my own photos, a 22 pound pike looked 15 to me.
My younger friends fished one of 10-15 and it seemed to be 18-22...
Bad eye mine...
