Your story reminded me of my Elk hunts when I lived in Wyoming. Chains on all four and always carry a couple of good shovels.

The deer around these parts are all most 100 % nocturnal this time of year... I had a 115" 8 point on camera coming in almost every day, two hours after dark... :eusa-doh:
They are here in the Upstate too. I always wonder if that's a function of me hunting, hunting pressure in general or just their behavior this time of year?

Cut up the one that took the shoulder hit yesterday.

The entrance wound was MASSIVE!

Almost looked like a bullet strike inside:

The arrow continued on through the chest and out through the offside shoulder.
At 50 yards.
Some serious POWER!

Cheers,
Nog

I don't understand anything about deer. But the wild boars here become much more nocturnal in the hunting season. When it is not hunting season you can easily see them 2 hours after dawn/dusk in quiet areas. As soon as they feel the first shots of the season, the daytime rides are over.

Great story Matt!. What are your arrow particulars? That is the kind of terminal performance we should all be striving for. A clean pass through when you don't just hit ribs.

Custom built Zombie Slayers with Luminoks.
125 grain Spitfires up front.
405 grains dressed.

Helps that my 380 Matrix has somewhat overpowered limbs...

Pass throughs are the norm with this set-up.

Nice!

I had a similar shot and result this year as well. 500gr arrow from my Micro 335.

My arrow is going about 300fps, so 500gr @ 300fps = 0.66 kg m/s (momentum)

Assume your arrow is close to 380 fps since you have hot limbs
405gr @ 380fps = 0.68 kg m/s (momentum)

Similar momentum, similar results. Complete pass thru and shattered leg bones.

But a 405gr out of my bow would go about 322fps = 0.57 kg m/s (momentum) A significant drop and that will continue to drop more down range as the 405gr arrow will slow faster than the 500gr arrow. Probably not get me the same result is my guess.

Could you calculate 580 gr with 400 fps?
Where can I find the formula?

I just found this:
http://archerycalculator.com/archery-kinetic-energy-and-momentum-calculator/

580gr - 350fps = 0,90

Something is wrong? It seems too much to me.

I think that is correct. You are almost as fast as Matt's bow but with 175gr more weight. That's = lots more momentum. You arrows will hit hard so you need a really good broadhead that won't get damaged.

That's great!!
I hope to have good passes similar to yours in the wild boars with that configuration. :eusa-dance:

Yes, I will use Sevr Robusto 2.0 and Slick Trick Xtrick, all in 150 grains.

Thanks!!

I also like yes.
I was looking for them a lot, I bought 3 from Lancaster archery (USA) and at customs they asked me for a +50% tax (€40). I preferred to lose the money and returned them... Customs thieves...

The good thing is that with one of 200-300 gr you don't need to insert the arrow and the foc will be even better than with inserts, right?

It will be my next purchase of broadheads, having it here in the EU.

Thanks!! 8)
