Congrats on the nice bird! Good luck with the archery gear. So far all I've managed to bag with archery gear is feathers. The last two years they've managed to stay just out of my range when they're in season.

I know all about it brother… I’ve shot at turkeys with longbows, compounds, and now a crossbow. It’s been mostly feathers!! I did kill a nice gobbler with my Ibex two seasons ago. Turkeys are a pain in the rear and hunting them with archery gear makes it worse!

I'm curious as to what went wrong with the 410 and TSS rounds. The reviews I've read on line, all make that combination look to be excellent. I recently bought (or rather paid for - it hasn't come in yet) a 20 ga. Savage model 301 with the factory turkey choke, along with a box of Federal 7/9 TSS shells. I plan on making this my turkey gun for the rest of my life. I've read that the 20 ga. can effectively kill turkeys out to 60 yards with TSS shells. Is there something about the Savage/Stevens single shot turkey guns that I don't know?

I've killed turkeys with 20 ga and 12 ga shotguns and one each with a recurve longbow and a crossbow. I really like the idea of a lightweight single shot with cannon power for future hunts I'm tired of lugging around my 12 ga. Browning pump. I hope it works out.

Here in Az, my season doesn't open till April 28th.

They have the kids hunting season first.

They open late because they say they want to let the toms have a better chance to breed more hens.

By time we hunt, the majority of hens are already nesting.
