Turkey with the Micro

Post by wheelsquad »

Turkey I shot this past Thursday. Was 2nd day of the MN season, but my first sit, got out there about 4:30pm and fired the shot around 5:30pm. Pretty early in the season yet and only had a hen decoy out in front of us. About a half hour into the sit, 4 hens made their way out of the woods and into the field edge in front of us. Could see the Tom back in the woods but he wasn't in any hurry to get out into the open. After a while the hens left across the field, so finally the Tom decided to make his way. That's when I decided to try and capitalize on it.

Was 89 degrees and windy when we went out that day. Today it is 30 degrees and snowing. You can see the wind pick up in the video right before I shot with leaves blowing across, so I gave the shot a little lead, but could have given a little more. If you look closely you can see the wind pushed the vanes enough to make the arrow enter at an angle. Didn't hit heart or lungs, but still ran only a short distance and died. Shot was 30 yds.

You can also see he has a little hobble in his step. That's because we had a little encounter the last day of the season last year. He won then, but I won this time.

Your bird is huge!
Big CONGRATULATIONS!!
Good shot.0

In my day I seen first hand how wind effects arrow flight.
It's challenging for sure.

Thanks guys. Technology sure has made it nice and easy to be able to get those memories on video. Now the focus is on getting my 7 year old a shot at one. Hopefully some consistent nice weather days ahead.
