Time to retire the 405 - Getting too old. New horse in the stable

Post by Sandman »

Evening everyone,

I went for a hunt yesterday and at about 7 am I had a nice Tom come in. Ranged him wrong and watched my Lumi-Nok sale clean over his back :oops: . As I watched him hustle into the cover I heard another gobble behind me. Cocking my 405 has been a challenge after shoulder surgery last year but I told myself I can do it. Well I struggled and struggled to cock my bow but just couldn't do it before another Tom came past my blind. Man getting old sucks.

After a little research I jumped in my truck and headed to Easthill Outdoors. Long story short after trying a few Excals I settled on a 400 TD;

I know I could have but a crank on the 405 but my wife didn't know that .....

The absolute bonus and to my surprize Excal has a promotion on which is a BOGO so I left the store with 2 Excals and I have a bow for my granddaughter;

I'm not getting paid nor do I have friends at Easthill but I cant say enough about their customer service and/or their prices.

The 400 TD is zeroed in and I'm headed out in the morning hoping for a rematch~!

Take care and stay safe.

Cheers

Good choice right there!!

I agree Easthill are good people... :)
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

Turn that 405 into a 315 and be all set.

405 down to a 400. Bows are basically same speed are they not? :shock:

Nice choice on the 400TD and bonus Mag Air!

Also agree with Janesy, cut your 405 rail a little shorter and you'll have 3 usable bows. One easy way to go about it is by cutting it the length so that your current rear riser bolt hole becomes your new front riser bolt hole.

His new Assassin 400TD has built in crank. Shoots nearly the same, but a lot easier reloading in the blind for him now. Well earned upgrade I'd say.

The 405 will become my son's bow. He has been using my old Exomax and Vixen for many years. During my hiatus he hunted with the 405. Anytime we practice he always gravitates to the 405. He is 6'2 and should have no problem for many years to come.

Just a suggestion. Toss those string stars. One will come off soon enough and with only one on, it will cause a change in POI. Also, the limb silencers are way to close to the limb tips. If you're going to keep them on, move them much closer to the riser where there is little to no movement. They do work a bit in lowering noise but they work even better at eating arrow speeds as the approach the limb tips. The further out from the riser, the more they'll slide on the limbs.
