2023 Moose Hunt - pictures in comments below

Post by Hunt it »

Just back from 17 days north of Superior on our annual archery moose hunt. Weather was warmer than normal but the wind was very low for first week. Week two was very warm with couple of days 26-27 degrees. All totalled, we had 7 moose respond to our calling. Only two gave us good shooting opportunities and those two are in the freezer. It was my lucky year as I arrowed both moose, one on the 25th and the second one on 29th. I was using my 400 Assassin flinging Norm’s custom double shafts tipped with 175 grn Tooth of The Arrow broad heads.
The first moose was taken at 14 yards - a double lung hit with complete pass through. The second moose was taken at 20 yrds - quartering on through front shoulder - it smashed through the scapula as well as a heavy rib - stopping short of pass through only by hide. Both moose dropped in roughly 40 yards. The arrows were recovered from both with zero damage and good to go again after re sharpening. I would post pictures but it takes me too long to figure it out on this site.

Wow congratulations on the fine hunt and hard work sounds like you put your time in.
That is great performance from Norms arrows but not surprising .
You must have a heck of a meat supply heading into winter!

Wow, that's a lot of meat for a freezer and a lot of work to make it happen. Congrats on the moose double. It doesn't surprise me that a Micro 400 with the right arrows and a sharp broadhead can have a crazy amount of penetration.
