UPDATE: Assassin 400 TD Issues Fixed
Good morning all,
I retired my 405 during the spring turkey hunt as father time is catching up to me and cocking it just isn't easy anymore. I purchased an Assassin 400 TD from Easthill Outdoors. I sighted it in and hunted without issues. I took it out about 2 weeks ago to sight it in for my upcoming deer hunt. I tried to crank the bow and noticed that the string latch was in the down/loaded position without the string.
Not knowing enough about this type of bow I figured I had done something stupid and didn't want to mess around with it so I took it into Easthill to be looked at. They fixed it right away (great customer service BTW) and told me that the crank mechanism thought the bow was loaded.
I brought the bow home and took it out yesterday to sight it in again. I zeroed it in at 20 after 4 bolts I went to load the 5 bolt and noticed that the crank mech was down and in the loaded position again? Anybody having this problem? This time I know I didn't cause the issue and I can't figure out why this is happening? I have pulled my 405 out of retirement until I can get the bow back in to be looked at.
Cheers,
Chester

Re: Assassin 400 TD Issues
If you push it all the way forward, can you not put your finger in the side hole and release it?
There was an issue years ago that some bows would snap the latches closed on the shop. But that was well before the assassin trigger ever came out.

Just to clarify, after the shot... The latches are snapping closed.
This is not happening after decock, it's happening after an arrow is fired

Re: Assassin 400 TD Issues
First time would have been after de-cocking it when I finished my turkey hunt and didnt notice it until I took it out 2 weeks ago.
The second time was after the shot.

No this is as far as it will go forward - I would normally take it into the shop and tear it down but as I said my knowledge of this style mechanism is little to none and I dont want to bugger up the bow more.

Re: Assassin 400 TD Issues
Ah, I see.
First off. Open your latches.
Second. Raise your brace height to 3/8". Your brace height it way to low as it sits right now.
The assassin cocking rope is only long enought to latch onto a string in the right "zone" of brace height, that way the string around the mandrel is tight, allowing for the most torque, and subsequently eliminating the possibility of the string binding on itself. You are currently out of the "zone" of correct brace height.
Further to that. There is a stopper block located in the mainframe itself. It's highly unlikely that it has moved, as it is hold on tight with two fasteners and not adjustable But everything it possible. If, and only if, raising your brace height doesn't negate the problem, look to see if the block hasn't shifted rearward.

Thank you very much for the info - Muchly appreciated~!

Re: Assassin 400 TD Issues
Adjust your string brace height, get the bow generally operating as it should. Then we can address the latches closing if it's still happening.Sandman wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 3:38 pmThank you very much for the info - Muchly appreciated~!janesy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 2:24 pmAh, I see.

UPDATE: Assassin 400 TD Issues
Hello all,
Wanted to share an update:
Big shout out to Canuck to take the time to go back and forth with me to help me out. As a result the brace height issue has been rectified - thank you sir.
I found out this through some digging on the internet that a number of Excal owners are experiencing the same issue and there is a easy quick fix - When this happens your bow thinks it is loaded with the latches in the cocked position without the string. What is required is to do is bring the mechanism back to cocked position (the string is not engaged) and use either a bolt or something to engage the anti-dry fire and pull the trigger and the string latch will return to "ready to cock".
Bow is ready to go and ready to get back into the fight~!
Cheers
Chester

Re: UPDATE: Assassin 400 TD Issues
Isn’t there a cutout on the underside of the mainframe near the front to access the latch release?Sandman wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2023 6:29 pmHello all,

Pics are worth a thousand words Don.
For future reference for anyone searching at a later date, as previously mentioned here's the cutout on the side of the mainframe to release the latches from the string
