340 Mag Crab claw buck harvest PICTURES ADDED

Post by gerald strine »

My Brother and I just returned from our annual fall rut hunt , this hunt has become more treasured to me as our age increases and our ability to hunt gets more challenging and our hunting lands future is in question,
We went up to relocate my brothers stand a month ago and he was seeing a steady amount of deer the four days we hunted more than he has seen in a long time so he was happy having the interactions with the deer even though he did not have a harvest in fact I am not sure a harvest is ever important to him any more but the whole experience of the woods and fellowship are the main goal.
He is the best partner a brother could have as he is truly so happy and supportive of any harvest I have which is not always the case with some of the people in our hunting circles .
Well with high anticipation I started our hunt with hopes for a harvest for my Brother and his Axiom after every hunt he had encounters to tell about but no shots , I on the other hand i sat for 3 days and only saw 2 small year and a half year old buck not legal to harvest if I wanted to and one doe.
I was getting to wonder what happed to the rut by the 4th day.
I have had good chase activity on this week in the past but was getting discouraged a bit on the last day when at last am I have a NICE shooter coming in but he is going to cut to far out I am in a tree stand with my safety harness on and my pockets stuffed with gear I have a grunt call in my pocket but it was buried under jerky , snot rags , hand warmers ect I manage to fish it out with out drooping any gear to the ground and give a signal grunt .
This has the effect I want and he starts turning my way !
He keeps coming and I have a 30 yard tree he passes and I pick a shooting window but he blows through it i pick a second window and as he steps into it I give a mouth bleat and he stops and looks straight at me in the tree I say to my self shoot for 30 yards settle the hold and the bow goes tink and the bolt goes Thwak , The buck spins around and runs the way he came from after fifty yards he stops and starts the beautiful wobble and then he is down in sight !
I now have that rush that you get after such events and have much anticipation to see what I have actually harvested we have a 3 point rule on one side and all I knew was he had that with out thinking but I had no time to study him.
I turns out he was an 11 point that was on some of our groups cameras last year we called crab claw he dressed at 178 pounds not my biggest deer ever but almost.
I apologize or no pictures but need help with that if i could sent a few to someone over the phone and they could post that would be awesome a private message would be great.

I am pretty old school I shoot aluminum 2219 shafts and Slick trick crossbow tricks 175 grain fixed blade heads .
The 175 grain heads are no longer made but you can get 150 grain Slick Tricks.
They are a wonderful head that I have used for many years with great results.
Pictures should be coming soon.

That's a nice buck! Big deer and the antlers have some heft like older deer have. Enjoy your success!
