Since you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism, how about asking your doctor to adjust your thyroid meds to optimize
output during the cold months.

Thyroid meds come in a very wide range of strengths. It may be just a matter of med tweaking to optimize your T3 and T4 output at this time of life.

Muck Artic Pro boots and Alpaca wool socks. The Alpaca is softer and significantly warmer than even the best merino. Harder to find the Alpaca as none of the chain stores carry it and pricey as well. I get mine from a local who has a booth at our fall fair every year - although this year i got them at the International Plowing Match.

Same drill for ice fishing. Also wear an Alpaca toque.

When it gets under freezing I wear Muck boots with a pair of Merino wool socks and wear a pair of Toasty Toes foot warmers stuck to the bottom on the socks. I never even notice the cold when doing so. I can't use a sleeping bag or anything bulky in a tree stand 25' up a tree.

Norm, I have, and he has. I started out at 50mg. I'm now up to 125mg. I go every three months to have bloodwork done. The nice thing about all of this is the Levothyroxine has also lowered my blood pressure... a bunch.
My BP now runs about 115/65 where it was in the mid 130's on average.

I think I'm gonna try the heated insoles, and maybe get better wool socks. I also have a pair of the old boot blankets that I used elk hunting in Wyoming. If I can find them. :eusa-think:
I'm sure they are in one of the cedar chest I use for hunting gear storage. I just have to dig them out. I just hate toting one more thing to the ladder stand.
I look like a camo 'ed homeless guy walking thru the woods to my stand now!!
The quest continues...

And "THANKS" to ALL for advice and suggestions.

For those looking for excellent ALPACA socks got to Altera Alpaca socks (alteraalpaca.com).

The Prevail over the calf sock is a really well made sock that any hunter could appreciate.
My wife and I each own quite a number of socks from Altera because of their appreciated warmth features.

Very warm too!

Well after moving to the north I was introduced to the Bama sock. It’s a little bootie that you put on over your regular sock and used in the mineing industry, not expensive at 15 to 20 bucks a pair.I wear mine at work with just regular socks and rubber safety boots rated for cold temps and when I get home the booties are wet on the bottoms and my socks are dry and so are my feet. Never tried them with a good sock but dry feet are warm feet

The best way I have found is to wear light socks and tennis shoes into the stand or blind. If it’s too muddy or snow is on the ground I will wear my waterproof boots. Once in the stand or blind I change into heavy dry socks and my Arctic Shield boot blankets and heated insoles. This has always worked for me when it is really cold.
Only takes a few minutes and you are all set for the cold. Don’t wait until your feet are cold. Put on the blankets and insoles as soon as you get situated.

There are several heated insoles on Amazon. Read the reviews and buy accordingly.

As a bonus I pull my coveralls down over the blankets so as the warm air rises it warms my legs some.

Wes, years ago my Dad woked selling things to dairies/milk plants etc. One of the products was a booty that you wore over socks if you worked in one of the freezers. They were thick enough that your boots needed to be a size bigger, but man were they warm. Like you said, you could take your boots off and booty was WET but socks were bone dry. Best thing I ever had for the feet being cold. I suspect somebody still makes something similar but no idea where to look. These things were amazing

Man where we live, you just wear your sneakers instead of your flip-flops. The first month and a half of deer season has been 80 degrees plus. Down in high 60s- 70s now..... I only own two pairs of long pants!
