Fighting back..

Post by Woody Williams »

Here is a poster I have made up and will be posting around my area. All the gun shops, sporting goods stores and taxidermist will get one.

I didn't think too much about it when my trail camera caught a picture of a guy on a 4 wheeler. I couldn't see a gun on it so I thought maybe he was just joy riding which is a commen (but illegal) practice.

BUT - When I went back up there again I noticed something I hadn't noticed before - 4 wheeler tracks going through a weed lot. I followed them and found where someone had gutted out a deer.

NOW - this person is a person of interest to me.

Maybe someone will recognize him and turn him in OR maybe the bunghole will recognize himself and put a little fear in him.

Woody, my first reaction was "great, make the bas---- sweat, hopefully he'll be identified and punished appropriately". However, after thinking about it for a few minutes I fear that you may have put yourself in a bad position. The heading of your poster leaves little doubt you are calling this guy a trespasser and a poacher. However, while you appear to have proof he was on the property, you have not clearly established it was him that killed and gutted the deer. In a society as litigous as the U.S.'s, I hope you haven't opened the door to a civil suit against you. Remember, in a land so focused on individual rights, it isn't what you know, it's what you can prove. I wish you the best of luck and hope the guy, or someone who knows him, comes clean.

W.W. I think I would remove the poacher bit as stump stated as no positive proof of poaching. I sure like it though...

Woody, if it was firearms season I can see him being called a trespasser but how would it make him a poacher?

He is either a poacher or an accomplice. Same thing here in the states.

His 4 wheeler tracks went through a weed field right up to the remains of the gut pile. Where this deer laid can not be seen from any road..

He hauled a deer out of private and posted ground..

Sounds like poaching in my book...

Woody,
If where the picture was taken is on private land where he definately was trespassing, I would go ahead & post it. If he broke one law, chances are good he is guilty of poaching. Even if he didn't poach the deer, I'm sure he will have a lot of questions to answer, and once the law is investigating him it should stop (at least if he's smart) further illegal activity from him.
I know of one recent case here where the state now owns 3 4-wheelers and a small arsenal of firearms siezed from poachers. These guys need to be made aware there is a heavy penalty for such activity!
