What type of critter is this?????

Post by AJ01 »

Here's on for all the Buds "up north".
Tell me what kind of animal this is.
It's from North America. It's not extinct.
And.... it's NOT a Hog!!

This critter is found in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. And Old Mexico.

It's NOT a Feral Hog, nor a Cougar.

With it eye sockets pointing forward (or are they?)and huge canines, it almost has to be a predator. The fact that we can’t see how big the skull and canines may be throwing us off. So if it’s kinda small, could be an Opossum. But I think Matt is right

Well Ladies and Gentlemen....
We have a WINNER!!

Matt got it!! Nice job!!!

It's a Javelina!!
No pigs in this one. And no predators either!! Cactus eater for the main course of the meal. Will come to deer feeders!! A big one is 75 pounds. But they make a neat shoulder mount.
I know folks that eat them BBQ 'ed, but I think I'll pass. We hunted a place in Artesia Wells that had these puppies everywhere!! The ranch hands would BBQ them and feast on everyone we killed. You are allowed 2 per license.
