How long until the ground freezes?

Post by DesertRat »

The farm I have permission to hunt in Guelph is soggy. The farmer has asked me to stay off with the vehicle until things freeze up. I am buggered until the ground gets a little more solid. If the forecast is showing the weather to remain bellow zero over night and through the day is it safe to drive on or does the ground need several cold nights (not the rainy crap we have now) before you can expect it to support your vehicle?

I could walk a long way back to the hunting area but if I were tO actually score a deer, it would be a backbreaker getting it out.

Any words of ground wisdom out there?

It will take a few days below the freezing mark for the ground to freeze solid enough to support your vehicle, If it is a 4 wheeler more for a truck DesertRat...

Hate to tell you Annoyed but Image

Actually DR,
It really depends on how far below freezing, and how long it stays that way. A couple days of really cold temps might be enough. Just be careful if daytime temps get above freezing. Mud on top of ice gets real bad

I was just curious because I won't get much of chance to inspect it and if I was able to slip away one morning I would sooner have an idea if it is even worth it. Since annoyed seems to be the soil expert, I will wait for his valued opinion.

I agree with Annoyed.

No one it's so hard to get permission with idiots out there.

Instead of asking dumb questions, why not test how solid the ice is by attempting to drive out onto the lake after a couple of nights of COLD weather.

That should answer your question!!!!!!!

Of course you would. You are an IDIOT!!!! Who said anything about a lake? Not only are you an idiot, your are a pansy. "GUEST"!! PFFFFT! Grow a set and post under a handle. I don't blame ya for not. Look at your second paragraph. "No one it's so hard...". "no one it's so hard"? That was almost english. I was simply asking in hopes that some people hunting this area could tell me how their properties are doing as I won't get a chance to inspect the place until I am standing there at 6AM.

I wouldn't let you on my property either. Not only are you dumb (the lake comment), you are an ignorant b1tch. Learn to read, then maybe you can make an educated comment. Until then, STFU!!!

DesertRat, I'm out to my farm every other day or so. I'll PM you when the ground is solid enough for a vehicle. I'm in Uxbridge but it should give you a guide.

DesertRat...I am hunting a couple farms just off of the Kussuth Rd close to 24. I manage to get out if not hunting just lookin around almost everyday so I will let you know when the ground tightens up a little. Right now it is a little too moist for wheels.

Regards,
Robin
