We just got back this afternoon, we basically lost one full day due to inclement weather. The first morning travelling through Roger's Pass and Kicking Horse pass was rough going with avalanch warnings, fresh snow, etc. For most of the mountains in BC we missed photo opportunities due to night, fog or snow, and we passed all the icefields and glaciers due to time constraints. Alberta through the prairies was great, and then we hit the storm in Winnipeg through Thunder Bay and all the way to Longlac. That stretch took us two days when we had budgeted for one. Regardless of having a few hairy road stories involving big trucks and small cars, we shot LOTS of pictures and saw a ton of neat stuff. Temps ranged from +10C in Calgary to -18C in Kapuskasing.
Some pictures from the plane and along the Bow Valley Parkway in Banff.
To whomever suggested that route...THANKS!
Here's some elk we saw in Yoho National Park...these are free roaming elk standing by the trans-Canada...they were very tolerant and let us take photos from 40 yards. There were 6 in this group, we saw a few more but there was no place to pull over.
Here's some of the elk in Banff. No big bulls but a few spikes were present. I took lots of pictures of this group (about 30)...here's just one shot.

I also have some nice shots on my film camera of 4 deer in Banff (will post tomorrow), and we missed an opportunity as a huge timber wolf crossed the road in Thunder Bay, stopped on the snowbank and watched us zoom by.
