night sights for Excalibur

Post by wabi »

Got an email from gad this evening and am posting the message & pics.
This may merit further investigation.......

BTW- I edited the size of the pics gad, they were a bit too large for fast downloading, so I reduced them in size.
take a look at my night vision system instaled on my exocet. It's needing a little
better work on glue that holds it in place, but works very well.
It's made with strontium aluminate, and needs a little touch with a flashlight to turn "on".
Please, if you can post it on the excalibur forum, do it for me. Cause I don't have any
place to host the images anymore.

I may have to incorporate that into my machined sights. What the heck, I'm not planning to have any kids anyway :o). How long does it glow?

That is pretty cool. You've got me thinking about glow in the dark paint. Are these dots already precut, or did you have to punch them out ? Oh yeah and how long do they glow ? More specifics please

Hi guys. Please, don't take serious on the finish of this sight, cause it's the first release and the glue doesn't look very good, I know.

Wabi: really thanks for posting the pictures. Thanks for reducing the size of the pictures too, since they were really big. You are a great guy.

brayhaven: after receiving one flash of a led flashlight (white led) it glows continuous for up to 12 hours, but useable glow is for 3 hours. It's strontium aluminate, not zinc sulfide.

Wildwindow: the pictures that you see here reproduce with fidelity the picture of the sight, specially at night. Note that fiber optic does note been removed, so, in day light, you can use the original "picture" of the sight normally.

Thanks for watching the post.

I have made these dots by injecting polyester resin with strontium aluminate in a silicone molded piece. These dots are composed by a external layer of white pigmented polyester resin and the inside layer is the glow layer. The white layer is for extending the glow time. Usefull time is about 3 hours, but it really glows for 12 hours (you need them to stay in a really dark place after the 4th hour to see it clearly).

GAD, I'm wondering out loud, although you can see the sights well, doesn't the peep darken the actual view of the deer? Unless that peep hole is very large? I haven't read all your posts on this subject...it does look interesting!

Last night I was in my garden, take a look through this sights in a iluminated flower by a flashlight, at 20 yards. It does not cover the target at all, but imediatily after being activated, it can cover the target, cause it's too bright. About one minute later, it's good to use.

I have not used the paint. I have used the glow powder (strontium aluminate) mixed on clear polyester resin.

Good systems. But if you don't wanna to have a scope....
I have used to hold my flashlight (nx surefire nitrolon) together with the body of the crossbow. Works well.
