It was about 9:30 AM - I thought I was done (had been in my Lone Wolf climber since 6AM. Lowered the bow and pack when 5 fawns and does came by me at about 25 yards. I watched them go behind me down wind and into the water. Got the bow back up quickly and loaded a bolt as about 4 more does and fawns came in. This one came up wind and was quartered away at about 5 yards. The slick tricks did their job - a 45 yard retrieve. A good way to start the season - 1st Saturday of the year.

I got a nice six point tonight with the Equinox.
This was the second time hunting this stand,I had two deer come in the first time but there wasn't light enough to shoot yet so I did an evening sit this time.

I got in the stand at 3:00 and this time brought my thermacell(I wont forget that again,blood sucking vermon)I was hunting out of an Ameristep 16' ladder stand with shooting rail.
I setteled in with a good book(The good book) and was enjoying my time in the word and the woods.I killed my doe last week at 6:30 so at 6:00 I put the bible away,took a drink of water and got serious.
At 6:25 I heard a twig snap and moved my bow into position.
I am hunting planted pines and he is coming diaginal across the rows.
I get him in the scope at 60 yards and follow him all the way in to 15 yards.
He stops and stiffens up,starts looking around,stomps his foot and lifts his tail,I'm no expert but I know what that means so I took the shot with him quarting to me.

The Factory arrow wit a G5 Montec entered at the front of the right shoulder and exited breaking the last rib on his left side.Compleete pass through again,he went 15 yard and was done.
He is somewhat Piebald and not as large in the body as my other buck or doe.

Team Florida is going to wait two weeks before scoring this deer in hopes of my getting a larger buck.
I have a new place scouted out with some outstanding sign.

If no one objects I would like to dedicate this Buck in memory of Digger and call him the Digger Buck.

This is my son's first deer and I would say he is my trophy. Here is a pic of Cameron and his trophy deer. Cameron is 12 he helped pick up apples and worked @ shooting the Excalibur crossbow this past summer and fall. Also helped with tree stands and hunting blinds.

Most hunters have heard of the "Texas heart shot." Well I'm calling my
new bow shot the "Ontario rectal shot." Sounds the same? not really!
these shots get their name from where they are headed not where they
entered the deer anatomy.

My shot entered at the neck (see picture above) and went nearly the full
length of the interior of the deer. When dressing it the arrow was just
poking out of the rear of the paunch! I know this is a shot you are not
supposed to take, but after seeing Taylor Wright (camera man for the
Canada in the rough T.V. program) take a pronghorn antelope head on at
50 yards with his compound bow, I thought I could take this whitetail at
20 with my phoenix.

This was my second chance at this small 5 point yearling buck, as my
first shot grazed a wooden rail and only startled the deer. I think the arrow must be in the next county by now! Even though my scope showed
a clear view of the target (a perfect broadside shot by the way) I was
sitting far back in a shed like stand on scaffolding, and I guess didn't come up far enough to clear the rail. In the future, I will sit closer to
the rail. Last year I took a similar buck from the same stand without
complications.

The amazing thing was the deer stayed long enough for me (while sitting)
to re-cock my phoenix with the stirrup on the wrong foot, wrestle another
arrow out of my Quikee quiver and refocus on the deer. Only this time
it was staring straight at me.

the downward angle from the stand allowed me to thread the neck,
and nearly traverse the entire length of the body. I was using a 150 grain boltcutter broadhead attached to an Easton powerbolt.
Boo's excel string with whiskers + the STS system no doubt helped me to get a second chance.

It was approximately 8.15 a.m., Thursday, October 2nd.; the second
morning of the Manitoulin island bow season. The deer went down about 40 yards from the hit site.

Mdcrossbow, I came up with an 8 pt (15 pts)with a 15" spread (10 pts)with 5 bonus points for an excal bow=30 points. the tape appears to be on the outside of the beam but if not, please pm me with a better pic.
