Can newbies play? Not a big bear, but my first bear and my first kill with my new (to me!) Xcal. The best part was having my 8 year old in the stand with me.

Image Half hour befor dark this little 8 walk down his trail and at the end befor an opening he stops, bend's over to give my x-bow a sniff, as i was sitting at the base of the tree. my bow is to my right and this deer walks right in front of me and eye balls me but see's nothing, smells nothing(but the doe in heat) on my boots. he takes 10 steps walking directly away but in front of me i was able to grab my bow and when he turned right to look at my doe decoy i let him have it. the shot may look far back but it was a hard quartering shot, in fact my bolt from 10yds out of my phenix did not exit, only lodge in his briscket.he ran just out of sight 50yds and down.

Got this one this morning with my muzzle loader at 9:22 I saw a doe at 8:00 but does are off limits on dad's place.

Just after 9:00 I got out my can call, grunt, and rattle bag. I set the rattle bag in my lap while I used my hands to work the calls. As I went to put the can call away the rattle bag fell out of my lap onto the treestand platform making a loud half metallic sound. Thinking quickly I grabbed the bag and used it to rattle as loud as I could make it hoping to use it as a distraction to the ugly oops I had made.

Ten minutes passed and I noticed a deer headed my way. Through the tree I could see the deer put his nose to the ground so I figured it was a buck at it was continuing my way. I got a glance at the the rack from the side and thought the rack looked small. So I started looking behind him hoping a big buck was following. The buck continued my way going in and out of view in my perifial (sp?) vision as I looked for a another buck. Then the first buck pops out at 15yds and I got a surprise. He was a lot bigger than I had thought. Once getting the gun up and him in my crosshairs he was at just 20 yards and standing 5 feet or so from where I took my crossbow buck. Through the smoke I couldn't see him but I heard him crash. He had went about 70 yards. While checking him in a Wildlife Officer just happen to be there and aged him at 4 1/2.

8 pt 18" wide
TC Omega 50 cal
100gr 777 & Shockwave 250gr
