South Africa - Exocet 200

Post by sbox »

My wife and I just returned from a trip of a lifetime with Motshwere Safaris in South Africa. Fantasic people, great food and lodging and incredible animals.

I had planned on shooting everything with my compound but I bought this Exocet this summer and for the short 3 months I owned it I have been so impressed with it's accuracy and speed. Its also illegal to use a crossbow here in Utah without a medical reason, so I decided to use it most of the time while over there since I can't use it here. I hope that law changes soon.

The closest shot was 25 yds (Blue Wildebeest) and the longest shot was 43 yds (Blesbok). All animals were one shot kills, and all had very short blood trails except the Warthog. I double lunged and heart shot this thing and it still went about 100 yards. Tough little pigs.

I used a Black Eagle Executioner Bolts, SLICK TRICK 125 gr. Magnum Broad heads. All shots were pass-throughs except the Nyala (see photo below) the bolt broke ribs on both sides and lodged tight in the opposite shoulder. The bull only went about 30-35 yards before piling up.

I also shot an impala with my Mathews Compound and a Gemsbok with a rifle.

If you're thinking about going to South Africa on a hunt contact Werner, the owner of Motshwere. You won't be sorry.

Congrats on your great hunt. My wife and I are making plans to go back to RSA and it may very well be a bow hunt.
