I was going to stay out of this thread but the above made me speak. Cost effectivness is what matters here. Wil banning handguns save a life, maybe but the cost of billions that it will take to bann handguns would save many many more people if spent differently.

More street police officers, more judges, more lawyers to go after the criminals, more money to keep criminals in jail and off our streets. More boarder guards to help stopping the illigal guns coming across the boarder. The taking away handguns from all legal gun owners will not in any way stop or slow down the speed of guns getting into the criminals hands. The only way to stop these gun crimes is by holding each and everybody accountable for their actions, including people under 16. People do not care now because they know that they will never be held accountable.

Enough of my rant.

Saw this cartoon in the Toronto Sun today. Got a good chuckle from it.

I don't believe any government would ever be dumb enough to ban long guns.

I also have a friend who works the mean streets of TO. But the banning of handguns won't make the streets any safer. The gang bangers are not going to think twice about purchasing a handgun, illegally, and then using it. They do that now.

One of the reasons we should be fighting the handgun ban is because the gov't would be dumb enough to ban long guns!!! Believe it!!

15 years ago we did not think they would be dumb enough to register long guns.

I would not put anything past this what passes for a gov't.

I have never hadf much personal interest in handguns but I know people who have. They are mostly target shooters, itherested in their sport who comply with all the reg's and now, they are being vitimized,

I see this as a stepping stone to further useless regulation of the honest citizen. The step after this is to start to take a bite out of what most of us class a sporting long guns.

Yes they would/could. If you look at your P.A.L. you will see that that the word "CROSSBOW" is on it. If it wasn't for BillT and others you would in fact need a P.A.L for that too.

I was a police officer in Toronto for many years and disagree with a handgun ban. The law-makers should make laws with teeth and not keep going after the law abiding citizens.

...views and statements like this, are why we are in the position we are in today... of course this is just my opinion...

- when this all started, who would have thought... :?: :?: :?:

**"re"-registering of all handguns (because a lot of registrations were lost in ??????)
**banning of certain rifle type actions (there really were too many anyway  )
**firearms licensing (and the individual rising and increased costs of it!...)
**possession only licensing - lucky you, enabling you to lawfully keep what you already own...
**long gun registration - for all law abiding citizens, so they themselves could get their guns in order and have a personal inventory of what they really had...'ya i guess so!!!!!!!!!!!!.
**classification of hunters and firearm "collectors"...establishing a number of firearms that you could legally posess (without someone actually breaking down your door to "have a look see" any time they felt the urge...)
**storage and limitations on ammunition (so you didn't overspend your pocket book and knew exactly where everything was - or thought you did...)
**having storage regulations that are so definitive and detailed that even a child could understand them - they were of course not subject to any interpretation what so ever
**making the registering of firearms a "piece of cake", with the help of the thousands of verifiers that are there at your beckoned call - and all paid so well for their dedicated and concentrated efforts we might add

and so on and so - the list goes on...

- not into handguns, that's okay we've still got our long guns to play with and i really wasn't that fond of targeting shooting at the range anyway - i'm sure the youth group that was started will absolutely get over it....ah, you say they are 'gonna grab the long guns too ?.........no matter we've still got the crossbows to use, after all, we get longer seasons and there are "no restrictions of storage"...it's okay...what do you mean, they talking about banning crossbows - i hardly think so - it "just couldn't be ????????"...what government would be dumb enough ?

- most don't give a rat's @ss until it starts to effect them...i've watched the progression of all of this over the last thirty five years and really - WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT ??...who would have believed that "any government would be dumb enough".........sorry, but i think as many have said before, we all need to stick together on "any part of this", or eventually you really are going to care...

The Antis love people like annapolis, and wish more folks had that attitude. It's called divide and conquer, they attack one piece/faction at a time.

Just like the in the past; first they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist; Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me.

If we don't hang together, most assuredly we shall all hang separately.

I am hoping that some of our politicians will come to their senses and get the long gun registry shut down. It will be tough with a minority Conservative government.

Is there any hope ??
