While we're on the topic, there was a moose spotted near Hanover, On about 5 years ago, and there were black bear sightings just north of Waterloo a year or two ago. Still, a moose on the 402 corridor between London and Sarnia boggles the mind!

I don't know that it is that far fetched. I recall reading an article about fishers, I know, a different creature all together, but they had trapped and radio collared a fisher on Manitoulin Island, a little less than a year later the same fisher was found either in Algonquin Park or very close by. Quite a ways for a little critter to travel.

Tom,
If the Toronto Humane Society (aka PETA) will pay to fly pit bull pups to BC then maybe we can convince them to sedate and air lift the moose.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news however the moose was struck by a truck near Lucan last night and had to be put down due to its injuries. The vehicle's driver was not injured. Hipwader

Moose

The MNR has been tracking this moose as it travelled and they say it is the same moose. Which is believable since every sighting seems to be a young bull. Apparently, it recently met it's demise with a combination between a truck and police bullets. That should end it for that one, but there has been recent sightings of a cow and calf along the Maitland river near Goderich/Auburn area. They are probably moving south to avoid bear predation with the sickening overpopulated black bear problem, caused by the lack of the Spring hunt.

The conspiracy theorsists in my neck of the woods seem to think that the MNR has dropped 3 or 4 moose in Hullett Wildlife area (north of Clinton, ON) in order to thin out the deer population. They say the sightings lately have shown different animals. I don't buy it, but I'm wondering if there is a grain of truth somewhere in this?? Maybe a family of 3-4 migrated south together??

LoneWolf,

LeGrand here from the iggi's breakfast meet last Spring. Important you have a PM.
Old Indian saying, if a leaf falls from a tree in the woods the turkey will see it, the deer will hear it, the bear will smell it, the moose will not eat it, but be on the look-out for LeGrand.
