I would have to agree with that,, I think Bush uses the term terrorist so often because he is trying to convince himself and others that he is not one himself... ooops  I guess the feds will be at my door this afternoon

I got fedup with Martin saying "fundamentally" all the time. I think it's fundamentally wrong to keep using the word "fundamentally" everytime he fundamentally spoke.

Hey JeffOwens are you receiving or making phone calls to Iraq, Iran, or Afganistan? If the answer is no I don't believe that the government would be spying on you. If the answer is "yes" I hope that we know what you are planning. I truly believe that when it comes to the safety of my family and my country vs terrorism that we should "kill them back first!"

Is that George Bush posting on the Excalibur site?

Ron, I hate to say this, but you sir, are a pussy!!! You have bought into George Ws lies and won't be happy until you have gone to war with every country in the middle east. Any statement like yours comes from a person that is very afraid!!!

This is exaclty the kind of right wing maniac that people are hoping Harper doesn't turn into. GB has every American quivering under his/her desk in fear of the terrorists so that he can finish "DADDY'S" job and get the oil. Don't give me this crap about liberating the people of Iraq. Most American's would sooner Nuke the Iraqi people. If Iraq didn't have oil, there would be no US assistance.

Harper is going to have to walk a very narrow path until he can get people to trust him and maybe, if we are lucky, form a Majority in the near future. That is if he doesn't "kill them back first".

LOL put the toy gun down now Roy Rogers!!!

Desert Rat,
I've been in combat, have you? I doubt it, but not to worry there will always be diplomats like you that turn the other cheek so that it too can be slapped. By the way do you know any other big words....other than
s_ _t. Incidentally, I was not responding to Canadian politics because even though I visit Canada each year I do not know enough about your political figures to espouse idiotic opinions. I figure that if you folks like
your politicians enough to elect them that's good enough for me. To everyone else on the forum I do apologize for allowing this to become a
mud slinging contest and I promise to never do it again.

Big deal you have been in combat. Does that give you the right to kill everyone without just cause? Does this make you a better person? The only cheek slapping is coming from your own government. They tell you folks that places like Iraq and now Iran, are a direct threat to your national security. This gets everyone in panic mode and off ya'll go to war. Too bad for the average American soldier. He/she puts their butt on the line and often come home in a box with a flag draped over it. For what? There have been no WMDs found. No 911 conspirators. What exactly was it that was a threat again? I guess it was just luck that after blowing Iraq to bits, that GWs rich buddies are getting lucrative contracts to rebuild it. I guess it was just a coincidence that there happened to be oil over there too?

I guess since you like to lump people into one pile, I should assume that you having served your country are in the same pile as the servicemen and women in Cuba? What happened to the rules of treatment of a prisoner? If you come back and say that that was a few bad apples, I would have to argue that about the people in the middle east.

Should the US combat terrorists? Yep. So should every other civilized country. I fully support all troops in fighting terror. Unfortunately, the US is using 911 and the threat of terror to accomplish things that otherwise would have been considered taboo.

Elections

I don't get drawn into political or religious debates exactly because of what is happening here now; i am not a fence sitter, i enjoy a good debate, usually a live one with people that have real information and can put it forth without getting too bent-out-shape.
That being said, everyone has the right to their opinions and having followed the Electoral Campaign we just had, i see how easy it can be to become a mud-slinger, the party leaders did a lot of that, we don't need to become THEM.
The Gun Registry won't go away quickly, if at all; too many marshmellows
on the fire to begin with, the best chance is as someone said, bleeding it dry, that will take some time and a lot of people/resources will be hard up to justify their employment after the registry goes.
I sure hope it's going to happen, we had a good system in place before this Registry came about, it would be good to have just that.
As far as Harper being in power, it's a welcome change from what we had
but i fear if he had a majority things could get from bad to worse; i strongly believe Governments should keep their noses out of the nation's bedrooms and churches; their mandate should be to have a thriving economy for all citizens, safety on the streets and in their homes, ensure a health-care system that is fair to all.
A lot could be added to the list, but one should bear in mind that i't hard to please everybody, let's just be happy we have great freedom, let's be hopeful that things aren't shoved down our throats under the Umbrella of Rights and Freedom for others to do whatever they want.
Good hunting, be safe.

Ron - I have no problem with the US spying on terrorists, I encourage it. We even have a secret court that can issue warrants after the fact, so they won't be slowing Bush down when he needs info in a hurry. I am damn glad we have those courts. It let's our law enforcement do what they need to do so they can react quickly, but it also adds a check to see that they don't abuse the power to spy as it will be reviewed by a judge later.

If Bush were being honest about what he was doing then simple accountability AFTER THE FACT would not offend him.

When I was a kid in high school, sometimes my Mom or Dad would ask me what I planned on doing when I told them I was going out with my friends. That only bothered me when I was up to no good, because when I wasn't doing something wrong I had no problem with telling them what I planned to do.

You mention you were in combat. I presume that means you were in the military, which would mean you have been sworn to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies both foreign and domestic.

That means you have sworn to defend any attack on the constitution whether it be by Russians, Terrorists, or George W. Bush.

I ask you to think about those words and what you fought for in combat long and hard. I sincerely hope you did not take those words lightly.

I love this country because it was once great, at one time it stood for something noble and good, at one time we held values that the whole world respected us for. I believe we can be that nation again one day.

The worst part is how we lost all of that. It wasn't a great power taking us over. It was something older then America or her Constitution. It was discussed in the Old Testament. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing. It was simply a Golden Calf that we traded our nations values and freedoms for. Simple idol worship, and greed. We stopped caring about our fellow man and instead focused on money, and power. This has become the official religion of our nation, and our leaders.

Benjamin Franklin, what a great man. He was the earliest of all the founders of this nation, and the only founder to sign all three of the documents that formed this nation. It was with his leadership and the assistance of others that the values that once made this nation great were formed. He said it best “"Those who would sacrifice essential liberties for a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."”

He was able to sum up the essence of everything I wrote in this long post in a just a sentence. Such a wise man, it's a shame he and his values have been forgotten.

I am done with my rant.

On a lighter note, that fat cow Rosie O'Donnell was on TV crying tonight. She said that now that the Liberals are out and the right wing conservatives are in, the last place that Americans could come to as a refuge is gone. Refuge? What is she hiding from? Oh yeah, Tom Selleck.
