Any one here shoot a Hoyt UltraTec or a Protec? I am on the edge of buying one of these and would like to hear any input.

I shot an Ultratec for a while. Mine had xt2000 limbs. Very accurate, very forgiving bow.Boo wrote:Any one here shoot a Hoyt UltraTec or a Protec? I am on the edge of buying one of these and would like to hear any input.

Boo,
I have a 2004 Ultramag, bought new in 2005 that I'd like to sell. It is pretty much the same bow as the Ultratech- x2000 limbs etc., the only thing is the riser is cast not machined aluminum. Bow is mint, shot very little, and comes with accessories probably for less than you could buy a new Ultratech bare bow.
Let me know if you're interested.

Boo,
I've always shot Hoyt's, their simply the best.
I (finger) shoot a Protec (Spiral Cam &1/2) w/XT2000 limbs.
As short as it is and as aggressive the cams, arrow groups/consistancy is awesome.
Finger pinch is a bit of issue and I'm seriously thinking of selling it and going with a longer axle-axle bow as this one is more suited for release shooters.

A Switchback. It is mainly a hunting bow but I u se it for 3D and compete with the longer ATA bows. The best part about it is the O so smooth draw and shockfree release. You really have to shoot one next to other bows to see how smooth and quiet it really is. If you are looking for a little longer ATA, Mathews makes some great ones also.
Best advice is shoot every bow you are interested in and make you choice. It may be something as simple as the shape of the grip in your hand that wins you over. I like the Hoyt grips and the Tec riser. In my case I was looking for a shorter Axle to alxe bow with some speed. Hoyt lacked in that department. Last year they had the Vtec, Xtec and VIpertec. I didn't find them to be to my liking as much as the SB. I can't speak for their Ultratecs as I didin't give them a lot of attention because I was looking for a shorter bow. I know they do well on the tournament circuit though. The shorter axle to axle bows that have long risers and parrallel limbs tend to be a little more forgiving thatn short AtoA with shorter risers. Even Hoyt gave in and started laying their limbs back and stretching their risers. The New Trykon's are a perfect example of that.

Speaking of "come to the dark side," check these out.

I have a Sabre XL two cam model on order right now. Very smooth and quiet. The Iron Mace is also a very sweet shooting bow. And the price is very attractive.

Boo, I have not shot these bows yet but this years Bowtech's with Binary Cam come with two module options. One is for pure speed, the other is less agressive and smoother. Like I said, I haven't shot them but this is their new thing for 06. Bowtech has very parallel limbs. They are blazing fast. I didin't find their Allegience, which is the closest to the SB, to be as smooth but the speeds are up there.
