Hope y'all are happy you've ruined the deer hunting.....

with them dang crossbows.

Yup, them crossbows has ruined the deer hunting - but they sure have helped freezer sales.
Especially since the deer herd is expanding so fast they have to try to figure out ways to get hunters to kill more deer. If you stop & think about it, it's really pretty amazing that the anti-crossbow (anti-hunting) crowd can claim the crossbow is bad for hunting. When Ohio included the crossbow in archery season the deer numbers were still low. If I remember right (and my memory isn't great after all these years) the limit back then was one deer - buck only! Now the hunters can't kill enough to keep populations in check, even with the help of crossbows as part of allowable archery equipment! And as for the crossbow hunters killing off all the good bucks, well just take a few minutes to look at the statistics for recent years. New entries into the record books at an unbelievable rate! In 2000, the "Beatty buck" scored 304 6/8 non-typical - in 2004 the Jerman buck" scored 201 1/8 typical, and this past fall the crossbow killed "Amish buck" by Jonatan Schmucker here in Adams county scored 291 2/8 non-typical.
Just how has crossbows hurt hunting? By getting more hunters out there making use of natural renewable resources? By getting young hunters involved, or allowing aging hunters to be able to continue to enjoy a sport they love? By including physically challenged hunters among the ranks to enjoy the harvest?
I don't think so!
But I do think too many narrow minded clowns screaming out in loud protest whenever new hunting equipment enters the scene (crossbows and inline muzzleloaders come to mind as good examples) are really in the dark! And I think IN THE DARK pretty well sums up their views and opinions, because they must have their heads so far up in that well known cavern where the sun don't shine that they not only can't see - they can't hear to listen to facts or reason!

OH! And as far as "y'all" ruining hunting, I'm sure glad I can be included among your ranks! I love hunting, and my crossbow gives me a good opportunity to continue to hunt deer here in my home state of Ohio as my aging body gradually becomes more reluctant to withstand the physical rigors of shooting a longbow of sufficient draw weight to cleanly harvest deer.

Good job Wabi!! Much the same in Arkansas, season from Oct1 to Feb 28th, 4 deer limit, two of which can be bucks, and some extras in overstocked urban areas.

most of the anti xbow guys give xbows a bad rap cause anyone can go out and by one and send a bolt 60 yards thinking its a good shot. But its also compound and other hunters that do stupid things with the weapons that arent up for debate but they dont get a bad rap

I know 90% of us with xbows started with recurve, long, and compounds... its something new and we wanted to try it

but its to bad that most cant see those things and just group anyone with a xbow as a bad hunter

more than likely, they are upset cause someone killed a bigger buck than they did so thats their first excuse

I had a discussion by mail with M.R. James, former editor of Bowhunter and avid anti crossbow hunting. His argument was that there were more deer killed in ohio by crossbow than muzzleloader. What he tried to hide from people was the fact that he was comparing a season that runs four months, right thru the rut,to a season that covers less than a week, after the bucks have been hunted for 3 months of bow season and a week of shotgun season.

The anti argument runs about once a month on another forum. They don't like it because they're greedy and don't want others in "their season" - period. They contort all kinds of figures and numbers and twist it that xbows are the cause of anything and everything bad in hunting. Many forget that the same was said about compounds when they hit the season. When you ask them for proof or data they change to another thing they don't like about them. They always throw the numbers from Ohio out there. Ohio has a week long gun (I think) and 4 months of archery. Where's the bad in that? If xbows can get a 10 -1 season length advantage over gun then bring it on. They're a whiny bunch at best and and no matter what you say or do they're not going to approve. It's Archie Bunker with a compound mentality and no amount of reasoning is going to get through. I had one argue that VA has lost 11,000 bow hunters to xbows in the 2 years it was legal here. I said how's that, the numbers say overall archery, xbow and compound numbers went up by 2,000. No reply so I guess every xbow hunter is somehow a total loss to archery just because he shoots one. They're convinced you the xbow hunter can't possibly have bow seasons best interest at heart and you're only looking for a free and easy deer kill. Success rates mean nothing to them. Getting kids and women in earlier mean nothing. Getting people that fall in the not handicapped but not bow hunting with a compound back in mean nothing. And all the while they still harp it's bad for numbers of bow hunters. They still harp poaching too even though no one ever has an actual case to point out. I've only been at it for 2 years but for those that have been listening and enduring this insanity in motion for a while my hat's off to you. It gets really old, really quick.
