new to crossbows

Post by mostlybow »

Im new to crossbows so please bare with me and Ill try to get up to speed.
I have a exomax, sounds like I should have gone for something lighter.

I use grim reapers with my compound but they have a spring loaded retention system.

Does anybody know if the spring on the grim reapers is heavy enough to shot out of a crossbow.

All advise to the new kid is welcome!!!!

I tried grim reapers out of an exocet, and was not pleased with the results. I was testing them by shooting through paper in front of a foam target and it seemed like one blade was always open when they went through the paper. I never tried hunting with them.

I dont think u will ever get a proper paper test reading from a mechanical broad head , i would think the blades would have to already be open (fixed blade) , i personally would not use mechanical heads on a crossbow , i dont trust them , i shot a deer a couple years ago out of a vertical compound bow and the arrow went in half way and the arrow came back out after the deer ran the first 2 yards, it did kill the deer but i like my arrows to stay in the animal, just my thought , happy hunting .

There are new mechanicals out this year that are made for speeds in excess of 300 FPS. Looks like the mechanicals are finally catching up to the fixed blades. However, you would probably be best served by the Grim Reaper staff on the issue of their broadhead opening.

I have a Exomax and love it.

Welcome to the new world, where a "Robin Hood" is no big deal.

I just started using a crossbow for the first time myself.
Got an Exomax and I love it.
Plan on using it here in Az on predators as well as Indiana.
Great site you have here.
