Tyler scores again

Post by raydaughety »

Tyler took a nice doe with his muzzle loader yesterday afternoon. It was a 96 yard shot right behind the shoulder  .

While dragging her out, I heard the unmistakable sound of a rattlesnake and screamed for Tyler not to move. He had walked right by the snake and almost touched it with the deer. Gentlemen, that scared to death. He could have been bitten so easily. Has anyone ever seen snake chaps in youth sizes? Anyhow, we had a wonderful day together. That's 2 does for Team Carolina  .

Congratulations to Tyler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure glad the snake encounter worked out favorably. Just be glad you aren't in southern Ohio - that would be about a $1,000 fine for killing the rattlesnake. They're classified as endangered and the DNR really goes all out on their protection.

Wabi, would you have been ticketed even though the hunter was at immediate risk?

Norm, I wound up shooting 100 grains of T-7 ( loose powder ), MMP 24 Sabots and 260grain Nosler .451 HPs.

Nice lookin' doe, Tyler! :D

Nice lookin' timber rattler, too!

We've got plenty of 'em here in Terrible County ... I mean Tyrrell County, too! Does Tyler wear the customary high-top gum boots?

Glad it didn't hit him.

We see more big copperheads than anything else ... lots of mocassins near water ... and pygmy rattlers! They're nasty little things.

Have you ever seen an Eastern Diamondback in the wild, Ray?

Wabi, NC has the same law but has the following exception:
"Killing them is allowed only when they pose a clear and imminent threat to health and safety."

The snake was less than a foot from me when I saw it coiled up and ready to strike. I don't know about anyone else but that is as clear and imminent as I care to get.

They say Eastern Diamondbacks are the most dangerous pit viper in the USA ... that because of their size, they can pump enough venom in one bite to kill even a healthy man.

I've known lots of people who got bitten by timber rattlers, and they got mighty sick. I've never known of a fatality. It would be worse for a little guy, I'm sure. Thank God Tyler was all right.

I keep an eye out for snakes ... we're at least 50 minutes from any treatment center. You can forget the ambulance service. They do what they can, but they're volunteers. Better get headed that way yourself if you want help in an emergency! :?
