hello - new to crossbow
hello - new to crossbow
Hello. I'm new to the forum. I've joined because after a couple days of cruising the board and reading various posts, it appears to be an intelligent place to converse and gather info.
I live in Hamilton, in s. ontario. I'm looking to crossover to crossbow for a number of reasons, but primarily for increased deer hunting opportunities and a longer season.
I have yet to purchase a crossbow. I have some scouting to do and would appreciate advice. I do know I want to purchase a bow made by Excalibur.
As well, what reading resources do people recommend. I've seen a number of websites already, but is there a magazine that others would recommend?
Thanks,

Sounds like you intend to start off the right way - with an Excalibur!
I'd recommend going to the "sticky" link Signing up for the American Crossbow Federation and joining up. http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/phpBB2 ... hp?t=18171
Your membership will include a subscription to the magazine Horizontal Bowhunter which is a great way to find out more about crossbow hunting plus add support to the movement to expand crossbow hunting opportunities in those states & provinces that still restrict crossbow use.

Welcome! You picked a great forum to be a part of. For the most part the people that post here have alot of smarts and great info when it comes to X-bow hunting. And since I am relatively knew to the forum as well I can tell you that they are very helpful. I have been hunting with an Excalibur since 99' and killed plenty of deer, but I am still learning and have recieved alot of info here that I never knew. Good luck SH.
P.S I like Deer and Deer Hunting magazine

welcome - thanks
Thanks everyone for their help and insight.
There are some good tips.
I live in Hamilton and hunt waterfowl at Long Point.
I'm looking for new deer opportunities in this area. Typically I hunt whitetail in the Dorset, Ont. area - there's plenty of deer - but I want to increase my time in the field and opportunity by going to a crossbow.
Any suggestions on buying new or used?
Jp

This the place a newcomer to the sport should start, whatever made you choose it was an OMEN; you will get all the answers to your questions just by going through the posts, page by page and if you don't find what you are looking for do a search, i find that frustrating sometime, but it does work in the long run.
Welcome again,Daniele.
