As some know, Tyler and I have been invited to hunt with the NCHS in Caldwell NC. It's a farming community that has a large number of whitetails and instead of utilizing the hundreds of crop deprivation permits issued by the state, they open there land and hearts to 20 lucky handicapped hunters in NC to assist in harvesting some of these deer. Tyler was invited as a special guest and agreed that he would do his best to make honor roll to get out of school for 2 days. Well, he came home with his report card today and when I asked if he had made honor roll he said no and handed me a piece of paper from the school principle announcing that Tyler had made the principle's list meaning that he scored higher than honor roll. He had earned all "A"s in all subjects this quarter . His teacher told Tina that he must do homework while in the stand because of his grades. We're very proud of him to day the least

I remember when I was 15 (was first legal age to hunt up here) my father put me up to that task (well not honor roll) as well to go on a moose hunt & I pulled it off (still did homework every night while there )

Way to go Tyler! Grades are very important!
I highlighted the quote because it brought back so many memories for me. I spent a good portion of my youth doing homework in deer blinds. It is the only way my mother would let me or my brothers go out hunting at home.
It is really not so bad. It helps the time go by.
To this very day a book of some sort always goes with me on my hunts. Between October and January 31st. I read a lot of books.
It seems to be a habit I acquired when I was your age.
Thank you. I am really looking forward to going on the hunt. I have known about it for a year and now it is only 2 weeks away. I'm like you Mr. Mike, I always take a book with me when we go hunting. It makes the time go by quicker but I do put it away when it gets close to that last hour of daylight. I don't know if dad told you but I had just got out of school and was doing my homework on the tailgate when I killed my first deer 4 years ago. He was a small buck but I shot him over 100 yards away with my 243. I'll never forget it. Well, I have to get to school.
I am definitely blessed. I see so much of my father in Tyler. When I was Tyler's age, if I answered an elder or anyone for that matter with "what" or "yep" or "no" , it would have been a sad day for me hind end. But then again, all dad had to do was look at me and raise his eyebrows or say " you know better " and that was worse that any whoopin that he could put on me because it meant that I had disappointed him and that would just break my heart. I know that dad's looking down and thinking well done . The two of them would have been inseparable. One day!
