Serving & string

Post by tytoalba »

Dear Boo
I have finally begun to make serving on a wire rope 40.
By some measurements taken, can give a tension on the rope more than double the open frame! In fact, the diameter of the rope with 6 rounds of torsion is serving almost equal to that of the previous 36 wire ropes (0.163”), although in most 4-wire.
Now I have further increased the number of wire rope up to its diameter bring the total to a value close to 0.172"(4.38 mm) to do what I have added additional 4-wire for a total 44; with this diameter remains centered on very well with cocca shaft section 22/64 "for an Excalibur crossbow.
Finally reading a thread of 05 November on a virtual Cavalier problems, I tried to "lining" the two cylinders which runs the rope with pieces of the arrow shaft from Easton:
1616 by 1916 xx75, glued with epoxy "UHU 300 Kg". Once you have connected and slightly enlarged the center hole I made 5 serving without apparent problems.
See photos explanatory.

I await your authoritative opinion

My translation of tytoalba's post, as I understand it

I have finally started to serve a 40 strand string.
According to my stats, the tension on the string is more than double that of the tension on the open frame! Also, although there's an additional 4 strands, the diameter of the string with 6 windings is almost equal to that of the previous 36 strand strings (0.163”), .
I've also, tried increasing the string by an additional 4 strands, making a 44 strand string, with a diameter close to 0.172"(4.38 mm) . Even though the diameter of this string has increased, the shaft of a 22/64 arrow remains fairly well centered on an Excalibur crossbow.

Furthermore, reading a November 5th thread, which mentioned the problems incurred with a Cavalier, I thought by increasing the diameter of the two rods on the Cavalier, the problems could be eleviated. So I used two pieces of an Easton arrow shaft: 1616 by 1916 xx75, glued with epoxy "UHU 300 Kg".
By doing so and slightly enlarging the center hole of the server, I was able to serve a total of 5 servings without apparent problems.
