How I got a FREE Vortex! New to forum!

Post by Hunter Dave »

Hello to all of the Excalibur Forum participants and readers. I'm a new Excalibur owner and I thought I would share a story about how I obtained my first crossbow. I've been lurking around this site for years learning bits and pieces and getting tips on crossbows and other stuff. Like many people, I have credit cards that earn points to be redeemed for merchandise or gift cards. For years I've collected these points but I could never redeem them for any real hunting gear and the sporting goods retailers listed never carried any hunting stuff either. I thought I was doomed to getting another blender! Then one day last month while searching the Excalibur Dealer Locator site, I noticed a dealer named Yakabuski's Home Hardware in Barry's Bay, Ontario. Heck, I have never even heard of Barry's Bay! But that's when it occurred to me that maybe points could be redeemed for Home Hardware Gift Cards. Ahaaa!
I contacted Yakabuski's and spoke to Monte (613) 756-2007 to strike a deal. He was willing to redeem the HH gift cards for a new Vortex, Right Stuff scope package and a case. In the end, I mailed a big stack of gift cards and Monte sent my new toy. Go figure! Here I am in Windsor, Barry's Bay is up near Algonquin Park and Kitchener is in the middle. The UPS truck probably drove past Excalibur's back door to get to my house! Don't get me wrong, I'm all for supporting my local stores, but this deal was too good to pass up. Needless to say, I was very pleased with the entire process. I also discovered that Monte sells lots of hunting gear and firearms too! I'm not tying to turn this post into a commercial, but this guy knows his stuff.
Oh ya, the Vortex. Well, I followed the instructions for assembly, called Excalibur customer service with a few dumb questions, and sighted it in last weekend. The result. Absolutely amazing. The accuracy is exactly as everyone on this forum brags about. After 34 years of hunting with rifles and shotguns, I've realized that crossbow hunting is going to add an entire new dimension to my hunting experience. Why didn't I do this years' ago?

Back in the spring on my first day hunting turkey, I shot a Tom. In October on my first day hunting moose, I shot a cow. Now I'm getting ready for my first crossbow hunt for deer and I'm thinking "Hey, three for a quarter!!"

I don't plan to be a frequent poster on this site but I do visit often. If I am lucky enough to bag a deer, I'll try to figure out how to send a photo. I find the information here useful and the stories entertaining. Thanks for allowing me to share this with you. Good luck.

Welcome Dave.

Don't be shy about posting, just start slow and see where it takes you.

I used to stop in a Yakabuski's on the way back from Algomquin Park. It's one of those hub-of-the-counterside places. Full of stuff and gear and people, also a great place to but good boots.
