Standard is a 32 strand Dacron or B50 string.

Sorry to jump in but....
I would recommend just placing an order with Don for a Boo String. You'll get the best string around, end of story.

What priorities? Speed? Low noise? Low shock? Easy on the limbs?
If you are new to crossbows you really should stick with Dacron in an endless loop or Flemish string. The Flemish string is the best otherwise just buy the string from Danny Miller.

Again, because of the fact that a dry-fire is likely when you are new to crossbows I strongly recommend a Dacron string of some sort. They are strong, come in many colours and are very durable. After you are sure you will never (LOL!) have a dry-fire then I would recommend a 40 strand Flemish string made out of either Xcel or 452X. This stuff exhibits a couple of percent less stretch which means it is less forgiving on a dry-fire but you get a string with a very low shot to shot deviation, lower shock and noise, lower creep and speeds barely better than Fast Flight.
I highly recommend an STS for many reasons.

sts

i would think the sts would help in a dry fire on shock to the limbs.my martin i just sold had a sts on it,worked very well, shock, noise.

I repeat, I suggest you use Dacron!!
Below is Flemish string. You really should use the search function or Google your questions.

If you PM me your address, I'll send you a practically new 32 strand B-50 string. I'll even serve a new center serving on it for 'ya. That'll hold you over 'til your buddy makes one, or Boo makes one for 'ya. When you get it you can send me 4 "bits" for my trouble if you want to, or not, I don't care.

I've got a soft spot for Michiganders , as I lived there for nine years back the sixties/seventies.
