Well after a 19 hour drive, 7 days of rain and only 1 frosty morning we were able to get a small bull. The 4 of us hunted hard for a week with lot's of good moose sign and 2 close encounters without seeing the moose. Called them in, but they would not show themselves. We did not have many calls answered, and thought for sure the rut was on. We closed in on a area that showed alot of bull sign. This area was torn up like we have never seen before and fresh tracks everywhere.
On Thursday we had very high winds and went out in the morning with not much confidence. As a surprize, luck was on my brothers side as he moved in on the back side of a small cut and sat down on a large rock. He then did one call sequence on his fiberglass horn and noticed a set of antlers in the long grass infront of him. A small bull moose was bedded right there and moved closer to investigate the caller. After walking back and forth in the long grass, it finally stopped in a opening and my brother ranged him at 44 yards. With the confidence from doing alot of practicing, my brother did not hesitate to take the shot. After the shot, the bull turned and ran towards the swamp but not in it. It then stopped and did a backwards flip to the ground. My brother then let out a yell of happyness and then reality set in and the work began.
The shot was at 44 yards using a older model Exocet with carved tip limbs, 2216 bolts and 130 gr. Wasp Cam-Locks. Recovery was 60 yards and also note that the shot was a high double lung shot with no blood trail with a complete passthrough. All 4 of us were using Excalibur Crossbows ranging from old to new.

I'm sure some celebrations were in order. I heard about all that rain. Did you use the same tent this year? Congrats to the shooter!
Great photos too!

You bet we celebrated that night. It was actually a cool clear night and the first night we were able to sit at the fire. The tent works great, by far a good investment.
There will be some good eating far awhile.
