Nice Ontario Buck, thanks to the Phoenix!!
Had this on the HUNTONTARIO forums, so figured I would copy and past it over here too, since I frequent this forum too...
Finally can post my big buck down pics and story...After always coming on here and reading everyone elses..
Started a week ago when I got video from my treestand of a Giant Buck but would not come closer than 80 yards, and didn't seem to hear my grunt tube at all... so i just watched him drift off in the thick brush Rubbing and Scrapping everything in his path....and dreampt about him turning and coming back right in to me....but never happened..
Fast forward to yesterday when I got to my tree that I climb get settled in and did 3 rattle / grunt sequences over the span of about an hour or so....after the 2nd sequence, I thought I could Hear a tree being rubbed in the distance...but thought i was imagining things.... after my 3rd and final sequence I watched a deer out about 50 yards(appeared out of nowhere) who snorted a couple times then started trotting away! (now 6:00)I grabbed my grunt tube, let out 3 grunts, and also threw in a doe bleat!.. The first grunt stopped him in his tracks.... and slowly he turned and kind of went out like he was going to walk 40 yards away and circle me, well he decided to walk up between some trees in the field, which was actually going to lead him within 20 yards to me....
Sure enough the buck does just that and stops at 20 yards and I let the Arrow fly!!(6:20 or so) watched the luminock out of his side as he ran off!! 2 seconds after my arrow flew, my video camera shut off!! meaning i failed to hit RECORD!!!! A bit upsetting..for sure
Waited 2 hours, by that time my help had showed up with tracking this guy...All set and ready to head into the woods when I see a car that just passed do a U turn and came back with a flashing light in the dash.... it was a CO by the name of MarK, he checked everything out(licenses etc) and decided to help out in tracking the deer, How good is that?!?! Get back to the site I hit the deer, and not a drop of blood, or hair, or arrow anywhere!!! So Mark mentioned about lining up 10-15 feet apart and walking through the bush where I thought it went...after 50 yards or so still nothing to be found..........10 yards past that a flash light picked up the buck.... I hear my uncle say"Look at the Rack!!!" I came running to find the deer!!! What a releif.... Then I looked at the rear end of the deer, and looks like the Coyotes just got into it and took some of my fine roasts!!! My buddy in Dundalk lost the entire rear end of the deer for the same reason. Coyotes got to it well before he got to it...
Here it is, sorry about the pic it was pitch black so the aim was off.. but you get the point...
The other is the damage the Yotes managed to do...!!
What a beauty buck!! He had the entire area tore up like mad!!
Enjoy!

Yeah, I seen the arrow in the deer as he ran off... It looked like the perfect shot placement for a broadside shot...macobow wrote:The deer was standing at 20 yards and you saw the arrow in it as it ran away. Did it look like a bad hit, therefore you waited 2 hours?
I have always waited minimum an hour or two when retrieving my deer(unless I watched them crash).... Up til this point never had a problem...
I did not want to lose this deer, so figured I would give him extra time... and not take a chance of jumping this guy...
Congrats on your buck,he's a brute
I think I saw a song dog the other night.
We have some wild dogs in my lease so I cant be sure.
I have a meeting with the land owners in a week to talk about letting me thin them out.

Good looking wide load there! Those back quarters look almost like they were cut, did you check your Uncle's pockets? You are lucky they didn't mess up the whole thing.
What broadhead did you use?
Congrats!
