Serving Life - Test #1

Post by bkisel »

OK, so a short while back I reserved a factory Dacron endless loop string center serving with some regular vertical bowstring serving. Brownell DiamondBack FF @ .018 diameter. is all I have so that is what I used. Decided to test this serving first with a clean deck, no serving wax and no string flipping. Noticed serving discoloration/abrasion @ around 30 shots; the serving abraded through by the right trigger claw on the 45th shot. The serving was abraded almost all the way through from the left claw.

I've now got the string reserved and will again shoot it dry but this time will flip the string after 30 shots so that the claws contact fresher serving. I'm hoping to get maybe 60 shots before having to reserve.

Any guesses on how much serving life you get if using serving designed for CBs, waxed or not.

Oh, I shoot an Exocet 200.

Take care...

That depends on how well you are able to re-serve your string. I make and re-serve my own strings, and I can get hundreds of shots from one serving. At the first sign of wear, I'll re-serve my string, which makes it last for several years.

Waxing is a good thing, but too much of a good thing is not so good.
Like a bikini wax, what's important is how and where you use it.

To wax or not to wax, ah, that is the question. More important, what serving material to use: Halo or, better still, Angel Majesty, anything else is uncivilized...and definitely second rate. :!: .

Sounds like after I'm done "experimenting" I need to get a serving designed for CBs.
