Palmated Buck..... The Final Chapter

Post by Mike P »

Our taxidermist stopped by the house this afternoon to have a little Christmas cheer and drop off the finished Palmated buck. In one respect I am happy to bring this three year journey to a close. But if the truth be known, I think I had the time of my life and this closure is somewhat bittersweet. I doubt I ever travel that road again.

I first introduced you guys to this buck when I showed you his right shed three years ago. It took almost the entire following year to catch up with him. And now in the season following his death, he finally arrives at my home. It has been a long three years. And yet, it seems like this saga began only yesterday. Time is like that when you reach my age and you hunt bucks. It makes you forget all the hardships. It makes you forget all the disappointments. It only allows you to remember the thrill of the chase. And the arrival of the buck today brings that chase to an end.

I have a ton of material on this buck. Most of you know I keep a hunting journal. I documented everything about this buck over the course of two years. I may just do something with that material so maybe the title of this post is in error. Perhaps it is not the final chapter. Perhaps it is only the first. Only time will tell.

I am going to place this mount in my office where I will see it every day.

And I will remember.

Beautiful mount. I do hope that the title is in error, I so enjoy your posts.

I like the style of mount Mike. I guess it is less cost then a fill mount. Wish i would have seen this mount before I cut the antlers off mine this year.
