Who is Using a Mono/Bi Pod?

Post by NonTypicalCPA »

This will be my first fall with my new-to-me Exocet 200. I hunt primarily out of ladder stands and was considering putting a mono pod on my bow. I'm curious what others are using, if anything, while hunting. Any reason not to use one?

My two ladder stands have a rail. I can rest my bow on it, if I want and the shot permits it. I made this for using a ground blind since I have to tote a load on 4 whlr anyhow.

I use several devices from a tree stand or on the ground. A mono, which I made works but gets cumbersome attached to the bow. Cabella's sells a portable, adjustable bi pod about the same weight. Horton Kneed Pod, light, inexpensive, great for using out of tree stand. Attaches loosely to knee, not bow.
Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.
Incurable tinkerer.
Why hunt? Simple, it's BASIC. Why breath?!

I've been using my Primos mono pod shooting stick for practice. It's working good, especially from the sitting position. But I'm thinking about getting their tri pod model for more stability.
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

I have the Primos Bi-pod, trigger release set-up. This thing is awesome! One gripe is that the legs sometimes get a little sticky, but compared to the lever-lock type, this is miles ahead for instant adjustment, and, its quiet......

I use a Mono Pod I got from Walmart it was cheap $22.99 and compacts down to about 20".The rest is a "Y" top with a rubber lining to help keep the gun or crossbow from slipping off.
It is made to stick in the ground but if you put a rubber foot on it I am sure it would work in a stand.
Works well on the ground have yet to try it in a stand but will this season.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to look some of those up and see which I think will work the best.

I've had very little success using mono-pods whether for rifle, handgun or crossbow. They just haven't added much if anything to my steadiness/accuracy. My bi-pod on the other hand has been used with great success.

I use both mono and bi depending on which stand I'm hunting out of. Cabelas has a 40" bipod on sale in the bargian cave for about $20.00. It's the one I've got, just wish the mount was cut different but that was bought for the handgun season mostly and I've taken it out with me during the other seasons as well. Anything to help steady a shot can't hurt.
