Evening Success .. Nice Little 9 Point.

Post by Sandman »

Hello all,

Spent another great evening enjoying what mother nature has to offer and ended my evening with the use of one of my tags ..

I headed out to one of the new properties that I have started to hunt (WMU 80) .. I have not had alot of time to scout the area but I used alot of what I have been taught and watched from experienced forum members over the years and located what I thought to be a "natural funnel". I carved a new tree and headed up for the evening.

As the evening approached I wondered if my strategy was a little flawed and I thought about packing it in as a light rain had started .. But I thought I'll give it 5 more minutes and then start packing up. I heard a familiar noise in the leaves which I thought was the number of 10 point 200 lb squirrels I had listened to for the past 2 hours and I didnt think much of it. The rustling in the leaves started to be too constant so I slowly turned to the direction of the disturbance. Soon the annoying black squirrel transformed into a four legged brown with horns.

As I watched a nice little buck developed into my vision. He walked up the ravine exactly where I thought the deer would travel through the funnel. At 22 yards he turned broadside to me and started to head to the bean field .. With that I stopped him with a "bahhh" and sent my Wasp Cam-Lok off of the rail. I heard the "thwack" of what I believed to be a good solid hit. The buck dissapeared from my sight and I thought I heard the "death" crash not far from me but having learned the hard way a number of years ago I settled in for the long wait. Darkness had settled in before I made my way down the tree and began the search for my bolt. After a little searching I found the evidence I needed to set my mind at ease a little:

After a short track I was happy to find a nice little inside the ears 9 point right where I had heard him crash only about 40 yards from my stand.

Very nice! But don't burn out all those tags just yet.
