sleepless night

Post by michhunter »

went out hunting tonight was awsom. light wind just perfect. Got in the stand about 5:00. just got the exomax ready to go wasnt 15 min had a lone doe come in watched her for atleast hour eating the acorns . She gave me more shots than can count never had a clue i was there. She finally moved on. About 30 min later cought some movement out in front of me a really nice buck my heart started racing finally a chance to get first buck with crossbow. the buck was taking his sweet time eating acorns he started to work his way in the other direction i pulled out my doe bleet and gave a couple grunts bow did he snapp his head up looked my way. He turned and putt his nose to the air after a min he started my way the buck would take 5 or 6 steps check the iar and kept comming my way he made it in to 25 yards i put the cross hairs on him right behind the shouler touched it off . I heard a thud the buck ran about 20 yards started to walk . my first thoughts was how did i miss?? i watched the buck as he was walking his tail was twitching like crazy i waited obout 15 min got down to see if i cuold find arrow . i found it right were i shot at him all vanes covered in blood. i gave him a hour half went out started tracking him found blood nothing spaying but not hard to find tracked him to a SWAMP thats were i stopped. with the blood not spraying out of him didnt want to push him at all now have to wait till morning and go back out and god i hope i find him. very sick feeling all kinds of things going through my head. well time will tell.

Just take your time & go slow in the morning you will find him, I have had to get down on the ground before & crawl to find blood, sometimes its just very small specs, just take your time.
Take time to enjoy each & everyday that GOD has given us- be thankful.

I'm thinking you'll find him easily!

I was out tonight in Southwestern Ontario and it was as windy as hell! Man what a ride!

I shot a deer that did the tail twitching thing last year with a rifle I shot he ran 30 yards stopped twitched his tail for almost a minute walked 40 more yards and fell over dead I was debating weather to shoot again but all I had a shot at was the caboose and I did not want to ruin the stakes.
I think you will get the deer the best thing to do was wait when in doubt it is never easy though.

Good luck tracking him down. Let us know.

:) If you had blood and did not push him . You should find him . :)
If he died within a half hour then he will not be any less dead tomorrow morning . :D
Waiting until daylight normally is the wisest approach .
Good luck !!

Good luck, Michhunter. Sounds like you made a good shot and it was nice and cold last night.

Courage & perseverence & by the way what colour was the blood? Should give you some clues as to how long to wait.
