Thanks for all the positive feedback guys. The first thing I noticed when I put the bow on the stock was the weight. It seems pretty heavy now. I haven't weighed it or the bow with the original stock but I will do that. I haven't shot it yet so can't answer on whether it is more quiet or not.
One of the best things is that I cut down the tree to make this stock myself 25 yrs. ago. Had it slabbed and made a bunch of shotgun stocks from it back then but the remainder has been in my barn for 15 yrs. or so. It's really satisfying to see it go from tree to stock, although this one took a few years. The tree was dead when I cut it but hadn't been so too long. It was a yard tree behind a farm house and over 24" in dia. I never hit a single nail and neither did the sawyer at the mill, which is remarkable for a yard tree that grew near an old farmhouse. Gary
Wow... that is truly an excellent piece of work!! I work with wood all day ( I rebuild furniture for UW) and I could only dream about having the patience to create a piece of art like that. I too was thinking of replacing my stock with wood, however I wanted to redesign the stock to a thumbhole as well as putting on a slightly higher cheekpiece so it fits me better.... had a prototype started out of MDF... and ran out of time.
Methinks you may have rekindled my interest!!

Holy deer! I'm like boo, do lots of metal work and also have a mig at home. Can't even imagine making something that beautiful. Don do you think if we made one out of metal we might be disowned by the Talent we are seeing here.
Man, I have to say that all the wood stocks I've seen created from this forum are all amazing, but Gary, yours is my hands down favorite!! I love the look of walnut and the brass plates are incredible! You are extremely talented my friend, I would never have the patience to create something like that! Thanks for sharing!
Awsome job, yes the brass is a great touch, that stock is something to be proud of. On a side note, It wouldn't work for me, I'd be afraid to scratch it.
