I hear what you're saying Aging - some places just don't have the deer traffic or the deer population. in some areas deer are "tamer" and more used to humans. Some people don't have the time to get out as often.

We're comparing apples to oranges to pears to... well, you get the idea! :?

I don't think I'm a bad hunter (you can ask some people that have hunted with me), but my lack of success has become a long-running joke. It has nothing to do with the fact that I shoot a Vixen.

I enjoy being in the woods. I enjoy the camaraderie of the fellow hunters here on the forum, and I even don't mind the teasing I get for not bringing home the venison. It's ALL good. I'm blessed.

Why do you have to be either good or bad? Why can't we all just get along.

well some would say i am a horrible hunter, as rifle comes in next week and yes i am going rifle hunting.

I am a hunter that provides meat for my family and a few others, hence why i got the excal for archery season to improve my chances.

I have enjoyed bow hunting and have a couple of stands i plan to use the excal in still, this goes back to the rock dropping theory and ruining meat with a rifle shot that close. HOWEVER i have a couple of stands that look out over 400yards and like the 30-06's ability to reach out there.

Good hunter... Bad hunter you can decide what you want, as for me i think the several freezers stocked with meat by me attests to my ability and what i feel hunting is really about!!!

and MAYBE one day a monster will present himself to whatever stand i am in and i will have a trophy, otherwise i am not going out in search of him.

I know of a few hunters that only want a trophy slob buck. I understand what drives them but its not for me. Just speaking for me if I do not shoot at something with a pulse for a long time I get rusty and then when I get a chance I blow it. Besides I love the stories shooting something makes. No doubt I will not pass up a slob buck but its a gift for me not an end all of hunting. To me and its just me I get bored passing on everything for the trophy to come along. I need, I neeeeeeeeed action. I have not hunted by me because if I fill my buck tag my hunting is over and I have three days hunting left at Buffalo co. Wish me luck cuss I need it. Leaving in an hour and hunting Monday and Tuesday. :D

Let me get this straight.
Are you saying that to be a good hunter you have to shoot a slow bow and if one shoots a fast bow then he or she is not a good hunter.

If so I guess you are not a good hunter compared to the guys that shoot slower bows than your vixen.

In my experience the Vixenmaster that I've known for several years is humble and not a judgmental man. I know how this thread sounds which is why I said it was stupid but it is very difficult to believe Mike meant it the way it came out. I really doubt it was meant to be condescending.

Sounds like the stuff I hear from the bow hunters about me hunting with a crossbow. I don't need any bow slow or fast, I can build snares. I 've got a friend who builds his own long bows and his own arrows and he actually kills deer. But I don't feel he is better than me don't know how he feels. I guess I grew out of the Richard measuring a while back. Got tired of loosing! :o
