OT/ Ole 844

Post by Hoagy »

This morning was opening day for turkeys, but.... I just couldn't help my self!
On the news this morning they announced that the Union Pacific steam engine #X-844 would pass thru our area & I had to see it! It's travelling from Wyoming to Arkansas. So I called my son & he, my grandson & I drove to a crossing south of town & waited for the show!!!! Got some good pics & my grandson was all smiles as the old steamer blew thru at full speed.
Now, it's take a couple shots with the Axiom & head to the timber to take on the turkeys! Heres 1 pic,

At the rear of the train is a flatcar with about 14 replica civil war cannons which are being delivered in Arkansas for a civil war reenactment of a famous battle. Which battle I don't know. There are approximately 300 passengers on board who will participate in the celebration. It was awesome as the 844 was trying to make up for lost time & was highballin!!!!!! I got 4 pictures & was lucky to get those. We waited about 1 1/2 hrs & then boom & it was gone around the next bend .

Hoagy, If your grandson likes trains let me know. I have 36 years on the railroad (still working) and I'll send him some stuff.

Hi Shotnbeer. His Great Grandpa worked as a conductor on the PA. railroad. My son has copies of his trips & pay schedules & his suitcase he traveled with. If you want to send something for "Bub" my grandson that would be great.
Thank You,
Hoagy

Hey shotnbeer, I'm porkfist, hoagys son. My son Jack, or as we like to call him "Bub", would love anything you might want to send. Some of my Grandpa's pay stubs for a half was around 150.00. Great money back in the 50's! I was a conductor on the UP until they laid me off. But I do miss it! Thanks for your time.
