Someone posted a website awhile back on how to do this, I remember looking at the video of a gentleman simmering and using Dawn dish detergent. If someone has this website please help.......

Re: DIY SKULL MOUNT
Here is one I copied off this forum some time back
*************************************************************************
Here is the process I used. Was a fair bit of work but worth it all the same.
Placed frozen head fur & all in a big pot outside. Brought the water temp to a simmer not a boil with the propane burner.
After 1hr removed the head & skinned it getting as much meat & fat off.
Seperated lower jaw & cut neck off @ skull base.
Back in the simmering water for another 2hr period.
Removed it & picked off the remaining meat & cleaned out all the other internal meat & brain using a garden hose & air compressor.
Once it looks as clean as possible I soked it in paint thinner for 3 days. This removes any remaining grease so the skull does not yellow over time.
Removed from paint thinner another spray with the hose.
When dry apply with a small brush 40% peroxide paste mixture (can be bought @ your local beauty supply store).
One thing to watch is to try to keep all the chemicals & hot water off the base of the antlers.
Not too bad of a process if you have the time to do it...
I have read you do bears the same way except the soaking in the thinner takes almost 30 days to remove all the grease.

i did one last year just took off the skin ,and then put it in a big pot dont let antlers touch water slow boil for 2 to 3 hours while having a few beers and then clean off all meat take a small peace off hanger or wire and take all meat out off small crevises ,,it comes out pretty easy after boiling that long then i just rinced it off and then brushed some peroxide on it , it doesnt turn bright white right away but leave it and after a while it turns out real nice good luck

Re: DIY SKULL MOUNT
I did a few of these basically the same way as described, but never soaked it in paint thinner. Probably a good idea. I also did not use peroxide as I wanted a more natural bone look. One thing I did do was mask off the antlers and spray on a coat of clear varnish. Seems to keep everyting looking good and has not yellowed yet. These are more than 5 yrs old by now.
Just make sure to clean the sinuses out really well.
I also looked around online and it is not too expensive to find someone with carniverous beetles. You ship them the skull and they have the beetles do the cleaning and ship it back. That is how "the pros" do a skull mount.
Just a thought.

The more I look at it the more I like it, Bravo for thinking outside of the box.
