Crossbow bolt weights

Post by jwilson »

This is for all the crazy people like me. Do you perfere weight or speed I'm shooting a 433 grain bolt at 333 fps. With 107 foot pounds of energey. I know that will destroy anything that gets with in range. What are the rest of y'all getting out of your excaliburs.

350GR 350FPS = 94.6KE will take care of anything we hunt here, I like flatter shooting, each to their own on what one shoots, but here lately it's like it's etch in stone you need brass inserts with blazers to be accurate, there are many combo's that will shoot as well and depending on the shooter better.

2219's Ten Point end nocks [plastic] PDP design inserts with weight adapters for a total of 524 grn with 100 slick trick or 539 with 125 grn at right around 300 plus fps for a total of 106 lbs of kintic energy with the 100 grn head 15% foc with the 125 right at 16% ,, and I will wager on tennis ball hit's out to 50 yds !! to far shot at game ,,but fun to play from swing under deck !!!!!

400 gr from Phoenix and Vortex. More than double the kinetic energy required for deer and flatter trajectory than heavy arrow. BTW please call them arrows, bolts are:
Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.

For deer I too am using firebolts with 150 gr. boltcutters and so far every shot on game has been a pass through and they shoot great for me. For my bear hunting trip this year I changed to some easton powerbolts topped with a 175 gr. slick trick backed up by a luminok for a total weight of 520 grs. I don't know how fast my exomax is sending them down range but it sure shoots them well and they stick a full two inches deeper in my target then my other combo does. I think they will shoot right through a black bear!

I prefer my arrows well under 400 gr including the broadhead. For me there's a good balance between speed and arrow weight and it isn't over 400 grains. There are a lot of us that use well under 400 grains but we don't speak out much.
Lessons well learned. Thank you Norm!

409 grains suit me just fine:) A 350grain arrow will kill a deer with no easy at all also.. I like 400 since its right in the middle of 2 big and 2 small
