Spin testing = Dodgy Field tips

Over time I acumulated a bunch of bolts that didn't perform well in a spin test so they were put aside. Today I was playing around with them.
I started with the worst ones by swapping the field tips in them with my good bolts . I didn't expect any change, but just had it in my mind it was worth checking. After marking and swapping the field tips around, the bad bolts all spun perfectly smooth, and the good bolts inherited a vibration. To the naked eye, none of the shafts or tips looked untrue on my spinning jig, but felt bad on the hand spin test.
I don't have a dial gauge to check, but the problem is definately in the bunch of dodgy field tips.
Has anyone else run into this problem before?

Dash...absolutely. It gets really clear if you put the bolts in a cordless drill and spin them that way. I have also seen the same thing with certain BHs. To me it speaks to the quality of craftsmanship.

This has all ways been a problem, each arrow has it's own feel for what bh or fp it likes, I keep spinning each one until I find it's match, and it's not that the arrows aren't made the same treat them like people

never thought about using a drill for a spin test. Should work.

I square my inserts.. Hears a tip = Rub some HARD wax into the threads of the point = parafin or candle wax or any hard wax, This helps center the point in the insert..... Ron

Before I add an lube, I run a tap in the insert to clean the threads.

Cheers for the input guys. Overall I'm just happy that my epoxied inserts aren't the problem

You will find two things wrong with some of the cheaper field points.
1....They all are not true on center, as a spin test will show.
2....I have found a weigh discrepancy among some and have to cull out the high and low weights. Some were as low as 119 grains and some as high as 129 grains.

These may not matter at 20 yards but will be noticeable at 30 yards and beyond.

I don't really know.
I'm using old field points from my vertical bow days and can't remember a specific brand.
Most come out of a bin at my dealer.
I do know that some were Easton brand and were more money at the time.
For now I just sort through what I have and likely will never need to buy any more.
