Proud Dad
Although none of you know me I feel that I know most of you here, as I read the forum regularly. I enjoy reading everyones post and learning from all your experiences.
Well my son Josh has practiced shooting my crossbow since the summer and can shoot one hole groups if I tell him the yardage. (Thanks Big John, awsome arrows) We have spent a fair amount of time in the stand together this fall but Josh seemed to have caught a bad case of buck fever. Up until last night he had times where he could not get the bow up or was shaking to bad to make a confident shot. We had some sent out last night and had an eight point come into investigate. He stepped out into the field at 40yds perfectly broad side and stood there enjoying the aroma that was coming from upwind. Josh whispered can I shoot? I had to tell him to hold off because even though he was leaning on the shooting rail he was shaking. I have never seen a mature buck stand completely motionless for such a long time. Not even a twitch of the tail, just squinting his eyes and flairing his nostriles as he enjoyed the smell from upstream. This went on for atleast 5 min. Finally after watching the buck for so long through the scope his fever broke and the crossbow was steady. Ok I said to Josh when you are ready take the shot and with that he sent an arrow right through the sweet spot. The buck reared up and run by us to do the shake flop right behind our tree stand. Wow what an exicting time. For a first deer he has set the bar quite high for his future hunts.

Re: Proud Dad
That's awesome! Congrats to you both on a great hunt!

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

This is great to read, congrats to Josh!!!
My son and I have a great bond too, he's now 19 and in college, but we spend as much time together as we can. Memories can never be taken away!
