warm boots
I was out for the last day of the season today. Temp around -8C and after about 1.5hr of sitting in my tree stand my toes began to FREEZE . Will be looking for a new pair of boots for next season. Any suggestions/experiences will be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: warm boots
Bought a pair of Schnee Extremes for my Alberta hunt last year. Also bought a pair of sherpa fleece overboots made by Raven Wear of Canada. If you are stand hunting, they are a must-have. I sat on the stand all day at -26 F and my feet never got uncomfortable.

Re: warm boots
Vapor-barrier designs are bulky but work like a thermos, and those toe warmer thingies might be promising... But While you are researching boots (and I'm paying attention to suggestions because I know the misery of frozen feet!) also consider that sometimes a warm HEAD and core is the secret to keeping your hands and feet warm(er). I still appreciate good warm footwear and mittens but generally have found the connection between my poor bald head and my dogs holds true...So I recommend paying as much attention to your hat, scarf, vest/torso, overalls, underwear etc to make it easier for your blood to warm your extremities. Especially if you're not moving . And fuel it with fatty high calories and protein.

I use these for ice-fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling... They are a bit bulky, but I've never owned a warmer boot.
Can sit for hours on a frozen sheet of ice, and my feet don't even hint of being cold.
Pricey, but well worth it in my opinion...

Re: warm boots
I use & really like a product called Arctic Shield boot insulators. I put them on after climbing into my tree stand and they keep my feet warm & comfortable.

Re: warm boots
Take a look at Baffin boots Made in Canada, several models, guarenteed to -40°for the Trapper Model, others even lower temps Price will not break the bank. They are very light wight, 100% waterproof and not at all bulky. I have been on frozen lakes all day trapping and feet were toasty warm
You sure you can skin griz, pilgrim??

Re: warm boots
I like my Arctic Sheild booties that cover my boots but there are a few things I've learned from hunting in -20 to -30 weather.
Like grousegrove said keep the core warm but your head is just as important. So I wear Arctic Sheild top and bottom (bibs).
I often wear 2 toques.
Use an old sleeping bag to keep your feet and legs warm
I try not to over insultate the feet because is your feet sweat you are going to be in trouble. So take a change of socks in really cold weather.
Use a boot drier, they are worth their weight in gold!
Everyone is different, the better circulation the more active you are the warmer your feet are going to be.
There is a direct relationship between hydration and warmth.

Re: warm boots
I bougt a pair of Muck Woody Elite boots this year and love them. With my old boots I always used Toasty Toe foot warmers from the mid 30s and under. So far this year I have only used the foot warmers twice when it was in the 20s with hard winds blowing. My feet have stayed warm.
If you get really cold toes good boots really help but when it is down right cold the Toasty Toes do a wonderful job of keeping your toes warm.
