Matrix 380 Bolts (Arrows)

Post by rattlerun »

Love the new Excalibur bows, but have a question about the arrows.
I have a boat load of 20" Gold Tip Lazer II's, with 4 inch vanes, brass inserts, and 100 grain heads. Would these work if I cut 2 inches off, or do I have to use the Diablo?

You can shoot the 20" arrows just fine per a previous post from Bill T. of Excal.

Won't the 20 inch arrows stick out past the stirrup?

I'm confused, you have a matrix and a bunch of 20 inch bolts and want to know if one of them will stick out past the stirrup?
May I suggest you drop one of thoses baby's in the matrix and see for yourself .

Yea, pretty sure Bill said they would be a tad long but he also said they shoot fine. As long as you do not go under 350 grains total you should be able to cut them dowm to 18".

I am using Goldtip laser 4's out of my Matrix 380 for now. They are 20 inches with a flat butt and I fletched them with Goat tuff optivane 2 vanes. They have 60 grain brass inserts. The total rig with 100 grain field point weigh right around 490 grains. I am not sure about the speed at this weight but they are still very fast and hit like a sledge hammer.

Re: Matrix 380 Bolts (Arrows) broadheads?

Post by TizzyDEDArchery »

Hey Mchurch I notice in your post at the bottom you list grim reapers and excalibur x-acts for broadheads. I've had some experience with shooting the x acts out of an excal vortex and I know one of the three out the package took more than one deer and I believe they are 1 1/2 inch cut correct? now they were not my broadheads actually but a friends who I was hunting with and the reason I now own a matrix 380. But ATM I'm using slick trick viper tricks I took a small buck early bow season this year with them and they worked great fly like field points and have devastating penetration however the lacked the daimeter on entry and exit wounds that the mechanical x acts made. I've my heart set on the new grim reaper whitetail specials which are a two inch cut but they don't make a crossbow version of them like they do the others? How have you found the grim reapers have performed? do they stay closed in flight? and are you using the crossbow ones ? Razortip or razorcut 2s? Sorry for droning on like to be informed. Any input would be much appreciated

Tizzydedarchery, I apologize for the delayed response. I don't get on here as much as I would like. The Grim Reapers that I tried were the 100 grain crossbow version razortips. The concern that I had with them is that there was always one blade that seemed to want to open just a little easier than the other two. I f you open the mechanism I think that it has to do with the way that the spring sits behind the blades. I pay about 600 to 700 dollars for a wild pig hunt here in California. At those prices I couldn't bring myself to using them if I couldn't 100 percent trust the mechanism. The Excalibur X acts are very good heads. I believe that they are made by Innerloc. I am surprised that they are not talked about more. I did take them on a pig hunt but did not get a shot off on a pig. I saw a video clip that is in the videos section of this website where Dan Wallace kills a moose with once out of an Excalibur Equinox. The arrow went all the way through the moose. If I was going to choose one of the two it would definitely be the X act.
