Single dot red dot sight.....

Post by globemountain »

Do any of you use a single dor Red Dot sight? I have a multi dot sight on my Vortex. I seem to think the sight picture is a lttle crowded with the multi dot sight. I was thinking of switching to a single dot sight and using the hold over/ hold under method. My Vortex has a flat enough trajectory that at hunting distances this should be a matter of zeroing at around 27 yards and holding under or over a couple of inches out to about 35 yards. Any thoughts?...

I used a single dot for about 10 years on my older Exocet. Most of my deer shots were under 20 yards and my dot was dead on at 20.

I have got another project started for a single dot red dot sight. I am going to use one of the micro-mini red dot sights( a jpoint or Tasco optima 2000, same sight, made in UK) and a weaver type mt. in the screw holes for the peep sight. It will lower the line of sight quite a bit so that the cheek weld on the stock is much greater. I think for a hunting sight this will work super. We will see.Could be lowered more by mounting sight base directly to Excal trigger group, but would require some more machining on sight base.By using the Weaver type base I just have to drill and counterbore one hole in proper location in base. Should be simple. Famous last words.
These little sights are less that 1.5 in. long and 1 in. wide and tall. Made for pistols, they are tiny and only weigh a few grains more than the factory iron sights. I am chompin' at the bit to get started but have some other stuff planned for next few days.
