Dogs legal for game recovery

Post by MADMAX2 »

Just read in Ontario out of doors we can now legally use our four legged friends to recover wounded game in Ontario!!

The dog must be licenced and leashed.

The standard size Dachshund is a far cry from itty bitty wieners that warm laps. They are much larger and, as their German name implies, were used to chase badgers from their hole. Any dog that can handle a badger has gotta be tough. Judging how my son's Dixie can find a scrap of fallen food, I'm guessing they have a very sensitive nose. :D

We here in ga have had retrieve dogs for deer for yrs .For fee. They let them run till the dogs finds the deer if needed.
Ive never used a dog ,cause i make my shots count when possible ,if i cant get a good lethal shot i dont shoot .

I always look for where the arra is gonna exit, that's what i aim for .
So dogs for me ,i hope not .Havent had to use a dog yet .

Its not about usin dogs to run the game by to shoot it. Thus is a regulation to allow dogs to blood trail n recover game. I have 2 of them & they are great at their job. Mine don't follow scent to chase deer, they only follow the blood.

Neither do i hunt deer wid dogs, were talkin about recovery of them. We understand yer feelins we preferr our deer huntin as Bowhunters. I have seldom missed or crippled a deer i didn't recover in 50 yrs of huntin them. I use me blooders every yr eases my poor tired old eyes. They make sure its not lost fer Yotes to eat cause of my sight goin bad as i get old & broken down. Look at me avatar at those 2 beautiful blood trackers!

Y'all are misunderstanding what Steve is saying. We ( I am in NW Ga. also) are allowed to use blood tracking dogs to retrieve wounded deer if necessary. Deer running dogs are allowed in some Counties in South Ga. but in NW Ga. where we live it is blood tracking wounded animals only.

His statement about calling a number is from Georgia Outdoor News Magazine (GON) which publishes a list of numbers of members that have deer tracking dogs that will come help you find a deer if needed (most do charge for the service).

I have found from a couple of wounded deer over the years that Labs and Golden Retrievers that are house dogs will find a deer about as fast as any trained dog. I guess it just runs in their blood.

I can vouch for that. My departed lab mix could find them even after a blood trail was completely rained out.

Or if a blood trail just ran out of blood.

He recovered four for me over the years, and a half dozen others that we weren't looking for. It was certainly in his blood.

Well, this colorblind hunter is glad the mnr finally got out of the dark ages and saw the light!

Are we absolutely sure that they didn't take some other "thing" away from us in exchange for this privilege? Ha!
