-Thoughts on Scope Sight In-

Post by Chris Dillard »

How many folks sight in their scopes from an elevated platform vs a level sight in? Does it make a difference? Thanks in advance :D

I sight in form the ground as well. I don't worry about shooting out of my stand. I have done it once or twice but I didn't notice too much difference in the impact point. I did notice the angle of the arrow in the target, of course.

As awshucks said dependin on the yardage shot on how high yer arrow will hit when sighted in on lvl. Mine always hit 1/2-1" high out to 30 yds.

Arrows are affected by gravity - which predominantly makes em fall - over the HORIZONTAL distance they fly. So an arrow shot from 20 yards at ground level will have a POINT OF IMPACT identical to one shot from say16 feet up...providing the distance to the target from the base of the 16 foot up stand is also 20 yards. However, it may need to be launched at higher up on the target - if the angel is quite steep - to pass through vitals on both sides of a deer target.

My stand is only 15ft high, and having never shot a bow from a ladder stand I hauled my bow and a target to my stand and tried it out. I did not find enough difference in POI to worry about compensating for it.

Guys I appreciate the posts. I have always sighted in on the ground and was curious if there was enough difference to worry about it.

Use a range finder with arrow compensation like the chuck adams. Its not much if anything at 20 yds.
